ter and a score or more of the
younger set of Marshfield and North
Bond enjoyed the evening immensely.
Miss Mary Mlnot entertained at a
bon-firo and dancing at her home
last evening in honor of Miss May
belle Minto of Tacoma, Wash. About
fifty-five young folks of North Bend
and Marshfield enjoyed her hospita
lity. The home was prettily decor
ated In yellow, white and green,
Tiger llllies, huckleberries and roses
being used effectively in the flower
scheme. The lawn was illuminated
with Japanese lanterns, "cozy cor
ners" here and there. Punch was
served during the evening and light
refreshments at the close. Mcs
dames Magnes, Matson, Mlnto and
Minot were the chaperons.
A trio of Marshfield ladies leave
Monday for Portland, Mrs. Fannie
Hazard, Mrs. J. T. McCormac and
Mrs. C. Masters. Mrs. McCormac
and Mrs. Hazard go to attend the an

Giand Worthy Matron and Mrs. Ha

goes to meet her father, J. B. Strlc
kler who is on his w"ay from his
home in Enid, Oklahoma, to Seattle
on business. Fred McCormac accom
panies the party as chaperon.
Last Monday, a wedding was cele
brated at Roseburg in which many
Coos Bay people were interested
owing to the groom Peter Marsden
being a former resident. Mr. Mars
den Is a son of Robert Marsden but
for several years has been a resident
of Portland where he Is prominently
identified with the Crane Manufac
turing Company. The following
from the Roseburg News will be read
with interest by the many friends of
the Marsden family who will unite
in wishing the young couple all the
success and joy that life can bring.
"At the homo of the bride's sister,

Bay and who has been an earnest
booster of this section. He said that
nature had done wonders for Coos
Bay but that nature seldom makes
cities that cities are the creatures
of the determined efforts of farseeing
men and women. He pointed out
how Chicago, Los Angeles, San Fran
cisco and other great cities had been
built on most unfavorable sites, and
declared that if only the world could
learn of the opportunities on Coos
Bay, Coos Bay might truly mako as
Its own Monte Cristo's declaration
"Tho World Is Mine." He said that
wonders had been accomplished in
upbuilding Coos Bay in tho last six
teen months and he felt sure the fu
ture would bring even greater re
turns If the men and women of Coos
Bay will only unite in a determined
effort to realize on their wonderful
opportunities.
Prospect For Railway.
A. D, Cridge of Portland delivered
an interesting talk on tho possibili
ties and necessities of building a rail
PANAMA CITY
S
road eastward from Coos Bay to tap i
the great undeveloped section of Ore
gon and the portions of Idaho being
reclaimed by irrigation. He said if
the people of the country to be tap
ped and benefitted would get to
gether, there was little doubt but
that the railroad could shortly be
secured.
Dr. J. T. McCormac presided at
last evening's meeting and spoke en
couragingly of the prospects in in
troducing the various speakers.
Secretary Walter Lyon also briefly
reviewed tho work on the dredging
proposition.
F. S. Dow said that Mr. Dior's
claim that the gunboats did not como
to Marshfield because Marshfield had
no public dock was a. mistake, tho
reason for their not coming being
that they broke their steering gear
in an accident coming up the Bay
to North Bend.
Reports Indicate Large Influx
From Worth On Vessels to
Coos Bay.
The City of Pannma sailed at 9:30
o'clock this morning for Portland,
carrying a large number from Coos
Bay. She had a fair cargo of freight.
Reports from Portland indicate that
her passenger accommodations on the
next trip down will be taxed to the
utmost, the hunting and summer
vacation season attracting a large
number in this direction.
The outgoing passenger list of the
City of Panama was as follows: H.
