HELPINfci YOUR HOME TOWN.
Tho flrar d"nty of every public
spirited' citizen' who has been able 'to
accumulate' so much money that .he
can. afford to make business ventures'
of anycharacter; is to do so in the
community which has furnished the
basis for his good fortune.
If every man who makes money in
a city or town should invest it else
where it would soon prove to' be a
milking process that in tho end would
exhaust its vitality and cripple Its
recuperative powers.
It is on precisely" the same prin
ciple as reaping a heavy crop of
produce from an acre of land every
year with no rest or application of
helpful fertilizers.
No community can long thrive
under such circumstances. The Diisi
ness that prospers is the one whose
managers put its profits into its' reJ
sources, and thus give it a renewed
stimulus. ' '
If there Is anything lacking In a
town which would enlarge Its busi
ness and Increase Its population, the
man whose property interests permit
him to gather large sums In rents
'every year should employ his surplus
capital thus secured In supplying that
want. The community which In this
way contributes to his fortune should
hr.ve the benefit returned in some
other form. The lemon that Is
squeezed dry soon loses Its' useful
ness.
The way to build up any town Is
for Its property owners to see that' It
gets In return the benefit of the pro-
tt i.i i i t. ,
fits which they have gotten from its
Ijuujiiu. nuy uiuur prucesB proauces
certain commercial atrophy and In-
dustrlal paralysis.
A GOOD ROAD'S SUGGESTION, j
)
A feature of the roads of France is
the ever-present guldcpost. These
guldeposts consist of an Iron plaque,
about two feet long and a foot high,
securely mounted on sturdy posts or
fastened to some substantial wall.
"They are painted In white and blue,
and show, without any possibility of
mistake, not only the commune or
township in which they stand, but
the next Important place In either
direction, as well as tho distances be
tween all tho chief points upon that
route Thus you will find, If you are
travollng on a road which leads to
Paris, that tho name of tho metro
polls will appear on the signboard,
: although It may be several hundred
.kilometers distant.

thero Is hardly a thing' that 'he recog

made such g,reat improvement.
On last Sunday evening the girls

tho price of a shpw ticket and pro

Bedllllon vory much by surprise, but
ho accepted gracefully. Not to bo I
outdone, Mr. Bodllllon went down to
tho Vienna Cafo and oitlored a han

girls by Inviting them nil to go down
and partake of tho spread.
