New Freight Agent W. A. Simp
son arrived herd from Eureka last
night to take up his duties as freight
agent of tho Alliance, the company
having decided to give Agent H. W.
Skinner an assistant. Mr. Simpson
was formerly purser on tho Roanoke.
Eureka In Yesterday. Tho Eure
ka arrived yesterday from Eureka
and will sail this afternoon for Port
land. She brought In a number of
Contractor W. O. McCann's employes
and also considerable material and
machinery for his street paving work
hero.
An Enjoyable Dance. Tho dance
given at I. O. O. F. Hall Saturday
evening by the Redmen proved a very
pleasant and enjoyable affair. The
music furnished by the Coos Bay Or
chestra was excellent and received'
many compliments from the dancers
during the evening.
Ship Body Away. Tho body of
Thompson Zapeslck, the Bay City
man who was drowned ten days ago,
was shipped to his old home at Stan
ley, Wis., today. A number of his
associates and fellow employes gath
ered at tho Mangan Undertaking par
lors this morning and accompanied
tho body to the boat. Wm. Zapeslck,
a brother, who has been laid up with
a broken leg has recovered sufficient
ly to accompany the remains. No
services were held here.
Hearing Ts Postponed. Upon the
request of Dr. Baumbaugh, her hear-i
ing on the charge of violating the
quarantine regulations was postpon
ed from 11 o'clock this morning un
til this afternoon.

Anderson to Prison. Sheriff W.
W. Gage left Coos Bay at 3 o'clock
this morning via Drain for Salem

Mrs. E. S. Gordon. "Mazook" main
tains that he should havo been freed,
that ho shot only in solf-defense and
that ho will bo acquitted on the new
trial which ho confidently expects
to secure. He did not talk about tho
reports concerning his health and
which, according to rwmors, may bo
made tho basis for an early applica
tlon for a pardon.
