CHORUS WILL
T
"Coos Bay" Will be Rendered
at Chamber of Commerce
Meeting This Evening.
This is the regular night for the
Chamber of Commerce meeting and
rain or shine, there will be an Inter
esting program.
In fact, it will be a novel program
In that It will be rendered for tho
most part In song. Prof. Todd and
his chorus will render "Coos Bay."
Tho members of the chorus will-meet
at tho studio at 7:45 and after one
rehearsal march to the Chamber of
Commerce hall.
Tho speaker of the evening will be
J. A. McCarthy who has been on the
Day two months and will havo some
thing to say that will Interest the
audience.
Other features will bo Introduced.
Everybody welcome.
Those Interested In securing the
government dredge for Coos Bay are
especially Invited to be present to
night. CANDLES POPULAR.
The World Uses More of Them Now
Than It Ever Did Before.
The "tallow dip" of our grandfathers
is no longer made of tallow, exactly.
It is made of stearic acid, which Is
only ono ingredient of the tallow that
grows in tbo sheep and iu the steer.
Ncitbcr is the "tallow dip" of today
a real "dip." They used to take long
wicks and din them in hot tallow,
time after time, till tbo candle bad ac
quired tho proper thickness. Today
they run hot stearic acid into molds
nnd make a hundred candles instan
taneously. Tho "tallow dip" on the market to
day, therefore, would be more accurate
ly described If It were called a "stearic
acid mold." But nevertheless It re
mains a tallow product It is tho di
rect lineal descendant of the "tallow
dip" of our grandfathers. And It is
still so popular that just about 130,
000,000 pounds of tallow, according to
the calculation of one of tho best in
formed manufacturers of Chicago, are
consumed every year In tho candle
factories of the United States. Al
though gas and kerosene and electric
ity havo deprived tho candle of n largo
part of the popularity to which it
might be entitled, it Is probable that
In both hemispheres today there are
nioro candles shedding their mild and
humblo radianco than In any previous
porlod of tho world's history. Tech
nical World.
There may be nothing royal about
tho American multimillionaire, but it's
his Hush condition that pleases Euro
pean princes who need tho inonoy.

i CHANGES
IN GAME LAW
Cal Wright, Deputy Game
Warden, Issues Notice to
Hunters.
Editor Times:
My attention has been called fre
quently during the last two weeks
to the fact that certain individuals
are deliberately Informing the public
! that the deer and other game laws
have been repealed and that the
common understanding In respect to
the same Is unfounded. Whether
these men are pursuing this course
maliciously or with tho intent to pro
fit by the innocent and unwitting
following of this advice, I do not
know, but I believe It is advisable
that such portions of tho public who
have been so informed should under
stand the law.
The hunting season for elk Is be
tween September 15 th and October
15th.
"It shall bo unlawful at any time
within tho counties of Coos and Cur
ry to hunt, pursue, take, kill, Injure,
destroy, or havo In possession any
female deer; and it shall be unlaw
ful within the counties of Coos and
Curry, at any time between tho fif
teenth day of October of each year
and tho fifteenth day of July of the
following year, to hunt, pursue, take,
kill, injure, destroy or have In pos
session any buck deer."
Tho law Is plain and it will bo en
forced wherever I get evidence that
tho same is being or has been vio
lated. CAL. W. WRIGHT,
Deputy Game Warden.
Insanity Is to be tho plea advanced

Stovens In San Francisco. How quick
