City Council Tonight. The Marsh
fleld city council will hold a special
session this evening to discuss the
telephone situation in reference to
the request by R. T. Durett for a
franchise to put in a competitive
system. No other business will bo
considered.
Aid For Poor. In order to sys
tematize tho charity work and en
able the work to bo done to a better
advantage, the Rev. D. W. Thurston
has made arrangements whereby
clothing or other articles for Jhls
purpose may be left at the Baptist
church. There is always a demand
from the poor for clothing and shoes
and Rev. Thurston wishes that every
one who has articles that, they do not
wish and think could be used would
notify him or send them to the Bap
tist church. The Ladles' Aid So
ciety has promised to look, after the
distribution of tho articles to the

Gets Piling Contract. The con
tract for driving tho piling for the
foundation of the new Chandler hotel
has been awarded to W. H. Noble.
Tho ground is being staked off and
surveyed for the work which will bo
gin in a day or two and bo rushed

M. F. Plant Sails. Tho M. F.
Plant sailed yesterday from San
Francisco for Coos Bay and will
reach here probably Saturday night.

Improvements at Sunnier. Mayor
Wilson of Sumner, is in Marshfleld
on business today. He says that
everything is prosperous at Sumnor.
There is a general clean up and im
provement in progress there. The

schopl house is being painted, Capt.
Harris is remodelling and improving
his residence and other work is un
derway. En route down, Mr. Wilson
saw a fine deer which was a sore
temptation as tho deer shooting sea
