OPEN
THE DOOR
HEART.
OF YOUR
OPEN the door of your heart, my lad".
To tho angels of ve and truth
When the world la full of unnumbered
Joys.
In tho beautiful dawn of youth.
Casting aside all things that mar.
Saying to wrong, "Depart!"
To the voices of hope that are calling you
Open the door of your heart.
OPEN the door of your heart, my lass.
To tho things that shall abide,
To the holy thoughts that lift our soul
Like the stars at eventide.
All of the fadeless flowers that bloom
In tho realms of song and art
Are yours If you'll only give them room.
Open the door of your heart.
OPEN the door of your heart, my friend.
Heedless of class or creed.
When you hear the cry of a brother's
voice,
Tho sob of a child In need.
To tho shining heaven that o'er you bends
You need no map or chart,
But only the love tho master gave.
Open the door of your heart.
Edward Everett Hale.
.PEN THE WINDOW of your
home and let the fresh breezes
of summer in. Let God's bles
sed sunshine into the house; never
mind if It fades the carpet; a few
days of life and health are worth
more to you and your family than
all the carpets made since the world
began.
Open the window of your mind
and drink in the thoughts of the
great men and women who have gone
this way before, but who possessed a
mind so great that the world has
Been fit to cherish their words and
deeds. The world today is reading
too much news and not giving
enough time to the really great
thoughts and deeds of the past.
What good is it to you to read of
the infidelity of some woman or man
in the high life of some distant city.
What do you want to store your
mind with such affairs for. Why, such
events are dead copy when they are
a week old, oven In the office of the
yellow daillea. How much less you
can afford to give space in your mind
to such than the cheap yellow daily.
Read, but read something worth
your while. Read of the goodness
and greatness of the world and not
of its follies and crimes. Open tho
window of your mind and let God's
truths come in.
Open the window of your heart,
lot the love of your fellow man come
out, that other's love may come In.
Look about and see if there are not
some of God'a creatures whom you
can help with a little love and kind
ness. Do not keep your goodness
all to yourself and family. Try to
bo useful as well as ornamental.
You wero brought into the world
for a purpose and ono of the pur
poses for which you were created Is
to bo of some help to your fellow
mnn. If you have nover done a
wholly unselfish act do one now and
see how much happier you will be.
How much brighter tho world will
look, what a warm place there Is In
it for tho ono who occasionally for
gets himself and does somothlng for
his fellow creature.
Open tho window to your wealth.
Look about you and boo thoso who
have failed in life's struggle and
noto how much these very failures
have contributed to your own suc
cess in life. Do not be afraid to do
a kindness for tho less fortunate of
your follow men.
Open tho window of your lives and
get out in tho light nnd sunshine
of tho world. Live a llfo that is full
nnd round. One that can bear the
light of day and not bo nfrald. There
may bo ptlier worlds for us to enjoy,
hut If wo mnko tho most of this ono,
wo will havo a bottor tlnio In the
noxt.
Open tho window. Opon it wide.
GOOD EVENING.

ELBERT HUBBARD.
Our baby isn't lullaby'd, nor rocked
until he sleeps.
The pacifier's not allowed to soothe
him when he weeps.
His mammy and his daddy both are
sterilized each day.
For we're bringing up our baby In
the scientific way.
He may not chew his little thumb,
while on the rug he squirms,
For thumbs they are not healthful
and rugs they teem with germs.
His oatmeal must be fashioned in a
fireless stove of hay,
For we're bringing up our baby in
the scientific way.
He mustn't kiss his Auntie Maud,
nor yet his Uncle John,
For oscultatlon is a thing that mi
crobes dote upon;
And now and then, with bated
breath, we wonder if 'twill pay,
This bringing up of baby In the
scientific way.
Exchange.
The man who orders his steak
rare is satisfied if it is well done.
Love's flame hasn't much chance
against fireproof paint.
If people would work more and
hope less, it might help some.
The world is a stage on which
every man wants to be a star.
The exchange editor's jokes are
quite apt to be shear nonsense.

Life is too short to waste
throwing stones at curs.
An old maid always hates to hear
of a widow marrying again.
"Can't you give that young man a
hint?" Inquired a Coos Bay mother
at 11:45 p. m.
"What can I say to him, ma?"
"Mention to him that our lease
expires in July."
Sometimes an angel can make
angel cake that will put the kibosh
on a trusting husband's digestion.
Everybody turns his back upon the
porous plaster, but it remains stuck
up despite the slight.
The Sage of the Milllcoma says,
"There are two things that money
cannot buy. Happiness is one and
'It's a boy' is the other.
No woman ever put on another
woman's rubbers without snlfilng at
them for being so large.
There Is absolutely no use quar
reling with a woman when you ex
pect to yield to her anyhow.
A man dropped Into the city mar

"Give me a nice porterhouse," he
ordered.
"Extremely sorry, sir," said Hob

Insubordination.
"I am very sorry to hear, Captain
Salter, that your wife left you so un
ceremoniously." "My mistake, sir. I took her for
