Fifteen Horses In Training and
Work On Pavilion Has Been
Started.
The liveliest spot around Coos
Bay at present Is the Fair Grounds.
In addition to the men and teams at
work clearing places for the new
pavilion and the addition to the
grand stand thero are fifteen horses
for the races already on the grounds
with trainers and rubbers. These
animals are being put in form by be
ing worked out each morning.
Among the horses at present on tho
track are the following:
Greenlaw a threc-y.ar-old runner
being talned by M. H. Nay.
Foster, a promising two-year-old,
that M. H. Nay expects some good
thines from tho coming season.
Gold Beach Is one of L. M. Noble's
lioraes that expects to bo in the mon
ey this season.
Zomoak, a trotter out of Zombra
and Redoak, has shown up well in
tho early workout, and la being
handled by Dan Star.
"Belle," a trotter sired by Bonnie
Direct" is a horse that much is ex
pected from and shows up well in
tho preliminary work. Dan Star Is
In charge of her.
Li. J. Simpson's string of four run
ners Is being handled by T J. Arm
strong. "Headlight" sired by Joe K,
Dam, Tennessee Maid shows up well
in tho tryouts.
"Adonde" by Gerolsteln and Lul
lomo is another horse that much Is
expectod from during tho season.
"Toscosa" a three-year-old chest
nut filly that is doing fast work in
training.
"Verosa" is another promising
youngster that will show up well in
tho coming races.
' "Verona" by Tom Cromwell, is do
ing good work in tho preliminaries.
"Creserton,'' by Imported Soverton
out of Crescent, has already proven
a good horse and will add to his lau
rels this year.

by winning ?1,185 in tho Seattlo
races last year.

NORTH BEND NEWS
North Bend mill has resumed
operations after being shut down for
a short time.
Judge John Hall of Marshfleld,
was attending to business on North
Inlet yesterday.
Miss Minnie Peterson of North In
let, Is spending a few days with
friends in North Bend.
The meeting of tho North Bend
city council was adjourned last night
for a week on account of the lack of
u quorum.
Mrs. Houghton, who was taken
seriously ill at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Henry I. Reese, Is re
ported better today.
The body of Wm. Gamble, who
died at Tucson, Ariz., recently, will
be brought here on the M. F. Plant
this week for burial.
Henry Hoeck has gone to Astoria
to confer with associates relative to
the new wood working plant which
he will shortly start on Coos Bay.
Richard Coke was called to Bill
iards this week by tho serious ill
ness of his daughter, Miss Maud
Coke, who was visiting Mrs. Fahey
there. Miss Coke is suffering from
nervous prostration.
Robert Agers, a former resident
of Coos Bay, but now at Napa, Cal.,
Is Improving after a peculiar streak
of misfortune. He had his leg
broken twice within a short time
and was 111 for several weeks. He
has been removed to his home from
the sanitarium where he was receiv
ing treatment.
