CLATSKANIE, Ore., June 4. Al
though official Information has been
sent out from Washington that It Is
useless to try for preferred rights
on Southern Pacific land grant
claims, suit to cancel which has been
filed, ten local people have gone out
to take up residence on these lands.
Some have their families with them
and are squatting; others are "batch
ing." Their attorney, Lafferty, tells
them they cannot fall, as their
claims will be "preferred," since they
made application to purchase before

you'll liavo corn to soil and keep,"
wrote Benjamin Franklin.. If there
is any feature of your llfo or business
which has never been properly ex
ploited In the advertising columns of
tho newspapers tho opportunity is
open to you to profit by Franklin's
suggestion. Many of tho rich men of
today were the pioneer advertisers
in their respective fields not so many
years ago, turning tlio virgin soil
with the plow of publicity while their
sluggish competitors restfully clung
to tho antiquated sales methods of
anothor generation. "Plowing deep"
is an advantageous policy under any
circumstances; but it is tch-fold
remunerative if tho chance offers to
do tho plowing before others begin.
