public schools were closed today In
consequence of the public holiday
declared for tho annual election in
Oregon.
Rough Trip From Frisco. Tho
Czarina reached Coos Bay yesterday
after a rather rough trip from San
Francisco. She left Frisco Wednes
day but owing to tho strong head
wind and rough seas could not make
regular time.
RICHARD WALTERS will go to
Portland in a few days to repre
sent the local Masonic bodies at
the state njeetlng there next week.
SAM MARSDEN will leave today far
Portland for a ten days visit and,
also to attend the state meeting
of the Eastern Star.
JOAQUIN MILLER, who has been, a
guest at the Crlbbs and Mason,
homo for several days, will leave
on the M. F. Plant for his home
near Oakland.
DR. J. W. INGRAM and wife, have
returned from California where
they have spent several weeks.
Dr. Ingram taking some special
medical work in' 'Frisco, and Mrs.
Ingram visiting friends. They
were unable to get passage on the
M. F. Plant so took the steamer
to Bandon. They had a very
rough trip, being out several days.

The chorus will meet Wednesday
evening at the Presbyterian church.
Cold Ruins Hurt Stock. Isam
Walker passed through here with
over 400 head of young cattle which
he was driving to his pastures In
Humboldt county. Because of the
cold rains this month they were not
in as good condition as is usual at

Marsden, Jr., received on the last
Breakwater two new Werwick
pool tables made by tho Bruns
wick - Balke - Collender Company.
These tables are tho same size
(416x9 feet) that are used in tho
championship games in all tho larger
cities. Ho also received with this
shipment two dozen fine cues and
private racks with patent locks. With
these improvements "Bob's" will
show up well with any modern bil
liard parlor.
Will Discuss Sewer. A meeting
of the property owners of South
Marshfleld will bo hold at the city
hall tonight to discuss the proposed
sewage system. F. S. Dow, chair
man of tho previous meeting of
South Marshfleld property owners,
has Issued tho call for the meeting.
