Breakwater Makes Run From
Portland to Marshfield in 21
Hours and 55 Minutes.
The steamship Breakwater, Cap
tain Magenn, reached Coos Bay
early last ovening, breaking all pre
vious records between the two
points. The running time from the
Portland dock to the dock in Marsh
field was just twenty-ono hours and
fifty-five minutes, excluding an hour
for a stop at North Bend and thirty
minutes for a stop at Astoria.
The Breakwater left the Portland
dock at 9:20 Wednesday night and
had favorable tide for the Astoria
and Coos Bay bars. The sea was
as quiet as a mill pond and the
steamship was kept under a high
speed the entire distance without
opposition from the elements.
The Breakwater will sail for Port
land at 1 o'clock Saturday after
noon. Already practically all of the
berths have been sold. Among those
who were brought to Coos Bay on
the Breakwater yesterday were:

A "QUALITY" PROGRAMME.
The head liner at the Crystal last
night was "The Snowman." This is
one of the latest feature films prod
uced by the American Mutuoscopo
and Blograph Company, and it de
serves especial mention. The chil
dren make a realistic snowman in
the school-house yard. After the
children go home and the night falls
he mysteriously comes to life and
holds high carnival until tho morn
ing. Then he comes to an untimely
end. The other Alms are "Stolen
chicken," "Tho Fox" and "The Un
lucky Shirtwaist." Both of the songs
made a distinct hit. "Aro You Sin
cere" is a little waltz song that
tickles the musical palate in a most
pleasing manner, and the slides are
or good as the song. "For the Red,
White and Blue," is a stirring naval
march song dedicated to the doughty
admiral "Bob" Evans. Tho slides
show pictures of tho fleet and also
a fine picture of the admiral himself.
