WORDS OF PROPHETS AND SEEKS
! WITH THE t
I TOAST AND TEA
t t
, GOOD EVENING. ii
May is to be a continuous perfor
mance of tornadoes, thunder storms,
hail and frost.
Rev. I. R. Hicks, tho famous
weather prophet, has hung out the
danger signals in his long distance
forecasts for the month, and trouble
is feared by THOSE WHO HAVE
Ji'AITII IN HIS PROGNOSTICA
TIONS. The merry month is to open with
a series of violent thunder storms,
approaching tornadic violence in the
West, and especially on tho third
and fourth. Low barometers, sul
triness, fitful south winds and rest
less clouds indicate an almost posi
tive danger at this time, says Hicks.
The country at large is to be vis
ited with heavy rains, and halls, fol
lowed by late snow squalls and sleet.
THERE IS MUCH PKOKAKILITY
OF SEISMIC DISTURBANCES.
Quiet and calm and much warmer
weather until tho 24th will usher in
tho most dangerous period of the
month, and Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday, the 25th, 2Cth and 27th,
storms may bo expected to become
very threatening if not tornadic. Tho
danger area extends over THE CEN
TRAL AND WESTERN PARTS OF
THE COUNTRY.
The Rev. Hicks Is a bold man to
forecast a stormy month of May and
wo hope his jurisdiction does not ex
tend to Oregon.
THERE ARE OTHER PROPHETS
OF TROUBLE MHO ANNOUNCE
SPASMS AND CONVULSIONS.
Harry McCtie, tho noted old seer
and prophet of Lako Whatcom, pre
dicts that there will be a great earth
quake in Utah within eight or eleven
days that will disrupt that State.
Ho also says the weather is con
tinuing so cold on the coast is RE
CAUSE OF THE UNEXAMPLED
WICKEDNESS OF TMH PEOPLE.
Ho declares thero will bo little warm
weather until after Juno bugs be
gin to buzz. The fact that lust Wed
nesday was a record-breaker for
warrntli on Coos nay is either refut
ation of tills prophet's prognostica
tion or proves that Coos Bay people
aro unusually good.
If we got our deserts for our wic
kedness THE SUN MIGHT NOT
SHINE AT ALL.
It might hall, if It did not rain,
nnd hall lire and brimstone as In
Sodom and Gomorrah.
Anyway if tills Is tho kind of
weather Mrs. Mingus is going to per
mit to bo handed out somcono will
get busy with a petition requesting
the Doctor to tako tho job again. Or
clso wo will Invoko tho initiative and
roferondum to hnvo tho weather sus
pended for a while.
Ho has achieved success who i'.
has lived well, laughed often, i'.
and loved much; who has gain- r'
od the respect of intelligent men V.
and the love of little children;
who has filled his niche and ac- ii
complished his task; who has i
left the world better than he ii
found it, whether by an im- it
proved poppy, a perfect poem, i
or a rescued soul; who has i
never lacked appreciation of ii
i Earths beauty or railed to ex- x
i press it; who has always look- ii
ii ed for the best in others and ii
ii given the best he had; whose ii
ii life was an inspiration; whose ii
ii memory a benediction. Select- ii

The Big Col
AN OLD SONG.
in
When all tho winds aro mellow
the glad Spring time
And bank and fell and fallow
blossomladen,
When every breath's a song and
every laugh like rhyme,
Sing hey, tho day for youth to
meet a maiden
Then out amid the morning.
Let wisdom waste her warn
ing, We'll laugh, Dear Heart, and sing,
Dear Heart, through all the
golden day!
Red lips are such a treasure
As only love can measure
When all the world is merry in the
month of May!
When all the dark is hollow and tho
wind blows cold
And down the west the tawny sun
is sinking,
When every word is wise, and every
heart? grows old,
Sing ho, the night's a noble time
for drinking!
Then drown the wizard sor
row! Tonight from death we bor
row, Wo'll laugh, good friends, and quaff,
good friends, until the dawn of
day!
Let song and wine remind us
Of loves we left behind us
When all the world was merry in the
month of May!
Brian Hooker.
