Gives Interview in Boise, Ida
ho on Conditions Here.
That P. A. Devers, tho busy Coos
Day booster, who Is now visiting his
old home in Idaho does not lot up
on his boosting even when taken a
vacation is shown by the following
story from the Idaho Statesman of
Dolso of April 23d:
"P. A. Devers, formerly cashier
and one of the largo stockholders of
tho First National Dank of Payette,
but now of Marshfield, Ore., where
ho Is president of tho Coos Day Se
curities-Investment Company, ar

be here and at Caldwell for the next
several days looking after personal
business affairs.
"Mr. Dovers has now been In the
Coos Day country for about a year
and a half and has great faith in Its
future. He stated yesterday that
that country was afTected to a certain
extent llko tho rest of tho northwest
by tho recent financial depression,
but that tho reaction had now set In
there as olsowhero and a general
feeling of optimism prevails.
"Tho Smith Lumber Company,
headed by C. A. Smith, the Minnea
polis lumber king, Mr. Devers said,
was now conducting operations on a
largo scale thero and tho outlook for
tho rapid development of tho Coos
Day country's immense lumber re
sources was bright. Tho company
Is now operating tho largest coasting
steamer on tho coast In transporting
lumber from Marshflold to San
Francisco, having made its first trip
out three weeks ago with a cargo of
2,250,000 feet of lumber, just a
quartor of a million feet less than
Its full capacity. Tho company has
ono of its large mills at Marshflold
with a capacity of 500,000 feet in I
two shifts.
"Mr. Dovers said, too, thnt there
wero indications that tho Coos Day
coal Holds aro to ho dovoloped on a
inoro oxtonslvo scale than heretofore.
Tho Harrlmnn interests, ho said,
woro especially active in tills connec
tion. Coal Is now transported from
Coos Day to both Portland and San
