to have a fine exhibit of blooded
stock at the Southern Oregon dis
trict fair hero In August.
CAPTAIN W. C. HARRIS, the
mayor, postmaster and cheese
maker of Sumner, is in the city
today.

Larson has taken charge of the
hotel at Allegany which ho recently
secured from Captain Edwards. Mr-,
and Mrs. Edwards have moved into
their home in Allegany.

reach Coos Bay within a couplo

they will stop at San Francisco to
witness the festivities marking
the arrival of the fleet.

Many have Mumps. A large num
ber of Marshfield and Coos Bay
residents are suffering from tho
mumps. It started as an epidemic
among tho children but many older
persons are now afflicted. No crit
ical cases have been reported.
MR. and MRS. CHRIS DRYDEN of
Oakland, Cal., are in the city as
gue3ts of Mrs. Dryden's sister,
Mrs. Mary Alerchant, and also to
look after business interests here.
Thirty years or so ago, Mr. Dry
den was engaged in the merchan
dise business at Empire. Both,
ho and his wife are enjoying good
health and are being warmly
greeted by their old time friends.
May Soil Ranch. Negotiations
are on for tho sale of the Blaine
ranch near Allegany to parties who
figure on dividing it into ten-acre
tracts and selling them on term pay
ments to small ranchers. There is
more than a hundred acres of good
bottom land in the tract. Similar
projects are on for other Coos River
ranches.

Wedderburn, who is on Coos Bay in
behalf of his candidacy for state
senator on an indenendent ticket,
strted yesterday that lie had just re
ceived advice from Curry county
that Norman Tyler had been nomin
ated by the Republicans for sheriff.
Ho was not appraised of the result
on the rest of the field.
Minstrel's Coming. It was a big,
good-natured audience that greeted
tho popular Gorton's Minstrels at (he
Victory Treater last night, and every
one present voted the performance
from first to last the best "buint
cork" bill ever presented at the Vic
tory, not even excepting the one g'v
en by tho Dockstader Minstrels, says
the San Joso Times about a Minstrel
Company that will soon appear on
Coos Bay.

white boy. Skipper never looked
better, and everybody hopes the
beautiful horse may recover, as his
trainer says ho will.

gale from tho northwest prevailed,
and seemed to come right out of tho
Arctic, so chilly were the evenings.
Many vessels hugged the shore to
escape tho full forco of the wind.
The roads are dry and bumpy ex
cept in tho green timber.
Johnny Prock was In from tho
Madden mine Saturday, and says
that owing to shortage of water they
will bo unable to wnsh all the black
sand they have stripped, but they
expect to make a good clean-up soon.
Miss Rose Ferry of Marshflald,
arrived at Port Orford Monday, with
a flno line of millinery goods, which
she has opened up In Johnston's

Conuille Wants Baseball Meeting.
The baseball enthusiasts at Co
nuille are beginning to iro under tho
delay In organizing for tho baseball
season. They have written hero to
arrange for a meeting of tho man
agers of North Bend, Marshfield,
Bandon and Coquillo clubs at Co
quillo soon. They claim that the
meetings have always been held in
Coqullle and that it is the most con
venient place to meet. They want
to see tho game started soon.

overhauling. The boiler is being
cleaned and mended, tho wheel re
paired and other work being done.
Captain Edwards says when ho takes
