MAY OPEN NEW COAL
MINES ON COOS BAY.
Oaklnntl Dealers Investigate Possi
bilities Hero mill May Purchase
Holdings.
During the past week, there have
been rumors that several new coal
mines or shafts would be opened
around Coos Bay within a short time.
Nothing definite has been done so
far and tho only basis for the report
are the negotiations for various
tracts supposed to have heavy coal
deposits.
During the past week, Messrs.
Frederickson and Nash, two , large
coal dealers of Oakland, Cal.,' have
been on Coos Bay investigating tho
coal deposits and possibilities of
mining. While they contracted for
extensive shipments, It was under
stood that they were arranging to
purchase coal land and to open
mines of their own.
They report that there is a good
demand for Coos Day coal in San
Francisco and at Oakland, and be
Hovo that an extensive trade will bo
shortly worked up.
