James E. Bennett, wife of the chief
engineer of the C. A. Smith mill, is
ill of ptomaine poisoning as a result
of eating clam's Thursday night.

store had his hand badly burned yes
terday by accidentally getting some
hydre-chloride acid on It. At tho
time, he did not notice tho Injury
but a few hours later pain suddenly
I developed. Tho Injury Is not re
garded as serious.
Two from Portland. Tho Eureka
is expected in Sunday from Portland
and will sail Monday for Eureka.
Tho Alliance will reach Coos Bay
from Portland Wednesday and will
sail Thursday On tho next trip, It
is expected that tho Alliance will
reach here on Monday and sail Tues
day, getting buck on her old sched
ule. Captain Scninun Coming. Captain
Geo. Seaman, well-known on Coos
Bay, Is expected to make his first
visit here In a long time tonight
whon he will come In on tho oil
schooner, Whlttakor of which ho Is
now master. Captain faeaman was

Pavilion Last Evening.
At tho conclusion of the second
regular half, the score of tho basket
ball game hctwen the Gold Bugs and
the Brownies at the Simpson Park
Pavilion In North Bend last night
was a tie, thirteen to thirteen. Ad
ditional play was agreed upon and
resulted In a victory for tho Gold
Bugs by a score of 15 to 14.
Tho game Is said to havd been ono
of the fastest ever seen at North.
Bend, both teams of the North Bend
high school girls playing in good
form. There was a good turn out
and enthusiasm ran rampant.
While all the girls played well.
Misses Lucllo Greenleaf and Ellen
Anderson aro said to havo done the
star playing for the Gold Bugs and
Misses Edith Raab and Amelia Volz
for tho Brownies. W. A. Davenport
was referee, Harry Russell umplro
and Mr. Hevener scorokeeper.
From tho two teams, a team will
bo selected to play tho Bandon High
School girls at Bandon. The gamo
will probably be played a week from
Friday.
Women Organize.
Several prominent North Bend
young women havo also organized a
basket ball team. Their contests to
date havo ben restricted to games
with the high school girls. Thoso
on tho team are Misses Wilson, Bert
man, Laura Kruse, Lena Kruso and
Mrs. Wernlck.
Tho North Bend teachers aro or
ganizing a tennis club and will havo
their first practice today.
