Recognized as a Food Product, and so dealt with
: by the Government-
It is being recognized tho world over that the drinking of beer
promotes temperance and sobriety to a far greater extent than all
the piohlbition laws on tho statute books.
All enlightened European nations are encouraging the manu
facture and consumption of light beers containing about three and
one-half per cent alcohol, and the result has beei most gratifying
to all stneero lovers of temperance.
The United States government has taken a positive stand in
this direction, the war department holding that tho re-establishing
of tho army canteen for tho sale of beer being an absolute neces
sity in the interest of temperance and sobriety.
Beer is today recognized as a "Food Product," and is so dealt
with by the government.
All tho great Insurance companies have contradicted the lies
that have been given currency through prohibition sources that
the drinking of beer was a bar to securing Insurance, and have
lately published to the world at large the statement that those
drinking beer moderately (not more than two quarts during twenty-four
hours) were the very best of risks. Tho latest British life
insurance reports Bhow that the ratio of death rate among abstain
ers is thirty per cent greater than among moderate drinkers.
Beer is pure and wholesome, and the day Is not far distant
when it will be as much a part of the daily subsistence of every fam
ily as are milk, bread and other food necessities.

Apples on Exhibit. One of tho
finest boxes of apples that has ever
been produced in this section Is on
exhibition in tho window of tho
Chamber of Commerce. Tho apples
were raised by E. Engreen of Kentuc
Inlet, who presented the bo to Dr.
Horsfall. Tho latter decided that
they wore too fine to be mado away
with at once and so placed them on
exhibition. They have kept perfect
ly. Bridges Will Return Soon. M. A.
Sweetman has received a letter from
J. II. Bridges of Reno, Nov., who re
cently purchased considerable prop
erty In Marshfleld, stating that ho
will return to C003 Bay within a fow
weeks piepared to make his homo
here. He also stated that ho had
practically decided upon tho kind of
a building that he will erect on tho
Gulovson corner, which ho leased for
twenty years.
Trouble at Myrtle Point. Attor
ney George Farrln returned yester
day from Myrtlo Point where ho ad
justed a matter that threatened to
develop Into a school feud. It seems
that a teacher there inflicted corporal
punishment upon one of tho boy pu
pils for somo offense. Tho parents of
the lad thought tho punishment was
too severe and filed information
against tho teacher. While no nr
rcsts were mado, tho matter was as
suming a gravo phase. Mr. Farrln
succeeded in getting tho school au
thorities and tho Irate parents to
gether and settling it amicably.
