Concert in Marshfield Satur
day Night Enthusiastically
Praised by Audience.
Tho concert given by the Banddn
Band at tho Masonic Opera House
Saturday evening, was pronounced by
local musicians and music lovers to
he one o tho best musical entertain
ments ever given on Coos Bay. The
Opera House was well filled by an
appreciative audience, all ot the num
bers being heartily applauded and
many enthusiasticlly encored.
The program consisted of ten well
selected numbers, a few of them
being solos and duets. Tho rendi
tion was good especially good in
view of the fact that few of the mem
bers of tho organization are profes
sional musicians as practically all of
them have regulr vocations and take
up music only in spare moments.
Director E. 13. Kausrud was warmly
praised for his work.
One of tho hits of tho evening was
a short talk by Geo. P. Topping, who
has "fathered" the organization and
been a hard worker towards bring
ing It up to its present high standard,
In which he thanked tho audience for
Its liberal patronage and its praise.
He said that tho Bandon Band had
not como to Marshfield exactly for
the money there was in it, aside from,
the expectancy that the concert would
at least defray the expenso of tho
trip, but more for its own pleasuro
and for the purpose of furthering thQ
harmony betwen Bandon and tho
tho other towns and cities of this
vicinity. His declaration for greater
liarmony botween tho towns brought
down tho houso and he was cheered
lustily by practically overy one In thdJ
audience showing that Marshfield is
heartily In accord with this move. '
After tho closo of tho concert, a
number of Marshfield business men1
discussed tho advisability of having
tho band stay over and aid in tho
welcoming of tho Nann Smith to"1
Coos Bay. However, the organiza
tion could not remain. Nevertheless,
It Is tho intention to havo tho band
as ono of tho attractions at tho,
Second Southern Oregon district fair
on Coos Bay in August and also in
Marshfield as often as tho opportunity
affords, tho excellent impression
made at Saturday night's concert in
suring oven a greater attendance at
future appearances than welcomed it
thon.
