Daughter Is Born. Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Vineyard of Eastsldo are re
joicing over the birth of a daughter,
the little Miss Vineyard arriving

School Is Out. Tho winter term
of the Daniels Creek school closed
yesterday. The term has been very
successful, and an appropriate pro
gram was held to mark tho close.
Robert Goetz, who is a candidate for
the republican nomination for county
school superintendent, was tho
teacher.
Art Club Meets. Tho Ladies of
the Art Club met with Mrs. Frank
Sumner on Friday afternoon and
spent the day in the usual industrious
manner after which tho hostess serv
ed a delicious luncheon. On next
Friday, Mrs. B. C. Bradbury will en
tertain tho club.
Bandon Prosperous. M. A. Sweet
man returned last night from Bandon
where he has spent several days on
business. Ho states that the town
Ih enjoying an unusually prosperous
spring, much building being under
way. Everyone there is enthusi
astic over tho proposed paper and
pulp mill which, they expect, will bo
built soon.
Hear Bnd News. Mrs. J. F. Stout,
wife of the proprietor of tho shoo
shining stand In tho Blanco barber
shop was summoned to Portlnnd by
shop, was summoned to Portland by
tho announcement that their resi
dence in Portland was burned. The
message contained no particulars of
the affair, and Mrs. Stout left on the
llance Friday to learn the extent
and details of tho loss.
Coquillo Is Growing. J. H. Crlp
pen, the genial editor of tho Coqulllo
Valley Sentinel, spent yesterday and
last night in Marshfield and North
Bend on business. Mr. Crlppen says
that Coquille is prosperous, and that
a large amount of building is being
done there this spring. Mr. Crlppen
Is an enthusiastic booster of Coos
Bay and Coos county, ever talking
and writing of its unboundod possi
bilities, and how it may bo hastened
by the co-operation of tho citizens of
the different cities and towns.
North Bond Tarty. Mrs. H. E.
Burmester entertained a large num
ber of guests at her home in North
Bend on Friday evening, in honor of
her husband's birthday. Progressive
bridge whist was tho mam feature of
the evening's entertainment. Prizes
were awarded, the consolations being
given to Mrs. Hockett and Mr. Pon
noyer, and the first prizes to Mrs, F.
H. Brlgham and Dr. R. O. Galo. Af
ter whist a delicate luncheon was
served by the hoBteBs, and an inter
esting article was read by Mrs. Wind
sor in regard to the improvements
accomplished by tho ladles ot the
Beautiful America club. Among
those present were: Messrs R. O.
Gale, H. R. Bevler, C. J. Hockett, B.
Penoyer and C. II. Broulllard; Mes
dames R. G. Gale, H. R. Bevier C. J.
Hockett, C. S. Windsor. F. H. Brig
ham and Misses Jennie Curren and
Ruby Brigham,

Onto Spit Near Mouth of
Siuslaw Still Fast.
Capt. Lathram of the Robarts,
which reached Coos Bay last night
from Florence, stated today that th
Berwick which recently ran on to a
spit near the mouth of the Siuslaw
during a storm, is still fast on tho
sands. Capt. Lathram does not be
lieve that the vessel Is seriously dam
aged. Ho stated this morning that sho
would probably remnln fast on tho
sands for some time as sho ran
aground during flood tide and has
been washed still farther on during
tho tlmo that has Intervened.
The Robarts which Is a steam tug
owned by Wm. Kyle & Son of Sius
law, brought down a load of salmon.
