Compliments Thurston On arriv
ing home in Marshfield last Saturday
Rev. Thurston, who has been holdinc
special meetings in this city, found
Mrs. Thurston and tho children so
sick that he could not return on Mon
day as intended to continue tho meet
ings. In view of tho interest awak
ened by tho meetings it is earnestly
hoped that ho may be able to return
soon to continue tho work that was
so splendidly begun. Coquille Son
tinel. Good- Roads. G. G. Swan,, of
Gravel Ford, mado tho Sentinel a
pleasant call while in the county seat
Tuesday. Mr. Swan informed us that
tho people of his neighborhood are in
favor of good substantial roads, and
think tho money well spent if the
county commissioners will insist on
substantial roads, and In his opinion
from observation tho best ulank
roads are made by laying tho plank
on the ground, without stringers, and
driving them down with a heavy
maul. Sentinel.
Return to Portland. Mrs. W.
Smiley and boys returned to their
homo in Portland Saturday. Mr.
Smiley will also go to Portland as
soon as tho Coos building is finished,
which will be in about ton days. Ho
came to Marshfield last August as su
perintendent for J. K. Killgreen, the

Tho franchise of Boloato for a tele
phone line, which was filed at tho
February meeting and laid on the
tablo until tho March meeting, was
taken up and on motion was laid on
tho tablo until tho April meetinc. In
all probability tho franchiso will not
bo granted, as it is considered by
many of our pooplo a schemo by
which tho person asking for it seeks
to sell it in tho future to tho highest
bidder, as ho asks two years in which
to build tho line. Coquille Sentinel.

who has been taking subscriptions to

North Fork road to tho Cooper
bridge, reports a fine degree of suc
cess. The amount of ?5G8 has been
raised by subscription from private
parties, $180 of tho amount having
been subscribed by tho peoplo of Myr
tlo Point. Tho county court has
agreed to givo dollar for dollar for
tho work, so that a fund of $1,135
will bo available for the work. This,
It Is believed, will bo amply sufficient
for oponing the rpad. and. grading It.
giving the farmers und others a com

that work will bogln on the fdaVas
Boon as tho weather will permit.
