Are arriving on every steamer. .Every department
is being added to weekly by new merchandise, the.
selections of which were made months ago, when
the representatives of America's leading houses
were sliowing their complete assortments.
To inspect our early arrivals, and to keep posted
on our new importations from week to week, is to
inform yourself on all that is new for spring 1908.
The strength of our organization, our superiority
over others in being able to secure the new ideas in
advance, 'can only be appreciated by an inspection
of our lines and frequent visits to our store, where
your best interests are served in style, quality and
assortment.

Lo! In tho morning when Jack
aroso the beanstalk, from a tiny
shoot, hud sprung up by magic and.
grown out of sight No, this isn't a
fairy tale; merely a chronicle of soma
few of the signs of tho times in North,
Bend, as evidenced by tho building
activity. There's no fairy talo ia.
connection, neither magic nobody
ever heard of a fairy with a union
card nor a magic houso requiring real
hammers, nails and lumber to build.
But the metaphor is good. North
Bend's building era Is nothing short
of wonderful. To those who camo
hero a year ago and remember tho
present cleared and populous addi
tions as heavily timbered tracts tho
situation need3 little comment. To
these tho story dulls when converted
from tho rugged reality onto paper.
But ld and young residenters alike
feel a sense of deep pride In the re
telling of North Beml's maich city
ward. Dally, one can see material
advancement.
Perhaps the most vivid Idea can bo
gained by visiting the great centri
fugal force of this building move
ment North Bend's waterfront
mills. On tho dock Just above Kelly's
boat landing Is tho North Bend Sash
and Door Factory. Through this in
dustry passes, theoretically, practic
ally every house of consequence erect
ed on Coos Bay; for It is the only
manufactury making doors and sash
es. At the present time It Is run
ning to full capacity and still hardly
able to handle the orders. Sixty-five
men are now at work and J. F. Bode,
tho manager, said Friday that no
could use moro labor If It were pro
curable. Tho mill Is eating up overy
month 300,000 feet of Oregon tim
ber. Tho box factory farther north.
on the wharf Is cutting 50,000 foot
of lumber dally and running night
and day. Very shortly tho Coos Bay
Furniture factory will start again,
after its short suspension for light re
pairs, and an additional force will bo
put on to fill tho back orders for its
output. Both tho Simpson mill, at
old North Bend, and tho mill at Por
ter aro running to capacity to keep
up with their orders. Tho capacity
of tho North Bend mill is about 75,
000 feet dally and the Porter mill
about 125,000 feet daily.
Illustrative of tho building now In
progress in North Bend Is tho fol
Uwlng list of recent constructloa
work:
S. Backey Is erecting a store build
ing on Virginia street.
Mr. Graves Is erecting a two-story
store on Sherman avenue.
Plans and specifications aro out
for a largo modern two-story build
ing to be erected near tho post-ofllco..
Georgo Beal, the saw mill man, is
financing It. Tho building Is to have;
thrco store rooms on the first floor
while tho,Becond will be divided into
about twenty-flvo offices.
C. F. McCuIIom's handsome rcsl
denco on Sherman street hill Is prac
tically completed. This Is by far one
of tho handsomest houses erected on
tho bay for somo time.
Bob Simpson has just completed an.
elegant eleven room houso on Sher
man avenue near the Simpson park.
W. B. Dilloy is building a neat cot
tage In North Bond.
Carl Lockdam is putting up a six
room dwelling on Sherman avenuo
opposlto tho Mercy hospital.
There are some half dozen cottages
going up on Swing Point, Bangor ad
dition, in the vicinity of tho Rey
nolds mill. Building has been un
usually heavy around Pony Inlet for
some time past.
Thomas Vigars, North Bond's well
known real estate man, is building a.
cottage to rent in Bangor addition.
R. A. Wernlck will soon start work
on a pretty cottage in Porter addi
tion. Fred Mlllor Is now building a six
room houso In the Porter addition.
A. J. Griffith Is now erecting a
handsomo and substantial six-room
house.
Harry Noble has just comploted
two fine cottages; ono is on Shorman
avonuo near California, and tho other
on Union near California.
Joo Scarth and Jako Llppold aro
among those who have recently built
new cottages In North Bend.
