ware dealer, and Clifford Hooo, a ne
gro, formerly employed by Hartje as
a coachman, named as co-respondent
in tho divorce suit of Hartje
against his wifo, Mrs. Mary Scott
Hartje, were placed on trial today in
tho criminal court, charged with con
spiracy to blacken tho character of
Mrs. Hartjo. Hooe was brought from
tho penitentiary, whore he is sorving
a sevon-yoar sentence for perjury In
connection with tho divorce case.

One Woman Loses Life and Several
Others Seriously Injured.

PITTSBURG, Feb. 24. Three per
sons were seriously burned and 20
others fled to the street In their nigh
clothes early today when an oil lamp
ploded, fatally burning Mrs. Gishlk
and seriously burning her husband
and a boarder. Twenty boarders in
tho upper stories narrowly escaped.
