EASTS IDE
A new town is born, it seems, on
Cooa Bay. The peoplo of what has
been hitherto called East Marshfleld
and also of Bay City, have decided
upon separate municipal existence
and will soon hold their first election.
"Wliother this action on their part is
wiso or unwise depends largely on
tile point of view, but from any point
.ofvtew it must bo-regarded as natur
al: Hitherto the peninsula has in
dued three cities which havo been
designated by somebody as triplets.
Now wo may speak of the cities of
Coon Bay as a quartette.
The f jturo of Eastsido is a fore
gone conclusion. It Is in no cynical
oronvtous word that wo declare that
her destiny will bo a great one. She
stands at the mouth of one of the
most notablo inlets or estuaries in
any country. Slio Is on the shores
o n- bay whoso possibilities as an
ocean harbor havo made her famous.
Per position is sure to give her ad
vantages which will multiply her pop
ulation and make her great and
wealthy. These four cities, North
Bond, Empire, JIarshfleld and East
side, depend ono and all on Coos
Bay and Coos Bay's development, for
thai' success which is usually con
sidered deslrablo among cities. East
side 's as well located in this respect
as nny of them. But the future of
Ca Bay also depends on the Interest
which the cities tako in making the
i).iy si harbor and in order to make
tr a harbor Eastsido, Marshfleld,
NnrHr Bond and Empiro must consol
idate as one great city. It will bo
the history of other bay cities over
atffln. But as tho five boroughs
qf r-ooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, "Will
iamnrg and Queens make up the
rAiy 'if Greater Now York, so tho five
bdro"ghs of Empiro, North Bond,
M it i-kH field, Eastsido and, perhaps,
ultimately, Coos Bay City or Blanco,
will unito to mako tho great city of
Coos or whatever other namo may
hi' cepted. It is a good augury for
tho future success of tho borough
phi1' of consolidation on Coos Bay
th"- Eastsido is born, and tho Tinres
viiahfx; tho now city no better and no
less good, than that sho will soon
gai' that prosperity and greatness
which sho is bound to ga'n sometime,
fu any event.
BOOST THE BOOSTER
That's tho official slogan of a cer
tain town in Arkansas which thru'
boosting Itself and boosting its
boosters has doubled its population
lpo tho 1000 census.
Boost tho Booster!
Tho Arkansas town hns been
(lUjUTellng among ltsolf for years,
uaul standing still. It hnd boosters,
but it had others who refused to
boost tho boosters, refused to stand
by them and yell, "Good boy kcop
It uy."
Boost tho booster!
Finally tho town got together with
itself, organized n "Boost tho Boost
er; Club" and began to boom. Now
its principal thoroughfare, which
wuk a streak of mud, la a btrotch of
asp' lit, nnil It hns now buildings to
m' h. Now overybody boosts tho
bi er nnd booms tho boom.
Jl iost tho booster!
This town might tako a hint from
that ono. Wo havo our town boost
ers every town bus some. But
some-times they get discouraged be
cause of opposition right hero in our
midst.
Booit tho booster!
Quit tho quoorlng!
Boom tho boom!
Then watch tho old town perk up
and plunge- forward. You can soo
it inoro.
When you boost the booster you
boom tho boom.
i Uso Tho Times want ads.

GOOD EVENING. O
To bo honest, to be kind; to O
earn a little and to spend less;
to make upon the whole a fam-
ily happier by his presence; to
renounce where that shall be
necessary, and not to be emblt-
tered; to keep a few friends
but, these without capitulation;
above all, on tho same grim
conditions, to keep friends with
himself here's a task for all
that a man has of fortitude
and delicacy. Robert Louis
Stevenson.
A Llttlo Bit.
'Twas a little bit of trouble that set
tho world awry,
A llttlo bit of worry that served a
frown to bring,
A llttlo bit of discord, a note too low
or high,
That made a fearful jumble of tho
song you tried to sing;
But hero's a thing that's worth your
note and it is always true,
As wo jog on tho rugged way,
while rocks about us pile,
There always is where'er wo go, tho
the same for mo and you,
A llttlo bit of happiness that's
worthy of a smile.
San Francisco Call.
Adam got tho original rib roast
when Evo scolded him.
Most peoplo pay too much for tho
things they get for nothing.
Some Coos Bay peoplo tell white
lies to glvo a story another color.
"Experience," said tho Philosopher
of tho Club, "is an art school In
which men learn to draw salaries."
It is easier for somo Coos Bay girls
to bollovo a man when ho tolls her
she Is pretty than It Is for him to
toll It.
Helen was watching somo files on
tho window pane, when sho called to
her mothor: "Mamma como and seo
if this is tho bosom fly!"
"Tho bosom fly, child! What kind
of a fly Is that?"
"Oh, tho ono they sang about In
church Inst Sunday 'Let mo to thy
bosom fly.' "
A llttlo Coos Bay girl was vory
fond of pleasant days, and at tho
close of a heavy rainstorm petitioned
in her prayer for fino weather; when,
tho next morning, tho sun shono
bright and clear sho became jubilant
nnd told her prnyer to her grand
mothor, who said:
"Well, dear; why can't you pray
tonight that It may bo warmer to
morrow, so grandma's rheumatism
will bo better?"
"All right, I will." was tho quick
response; and that night, ns she
knelt, sho mado this request In her
prnyors: "Oh, God, ploaso mnko It
hot for grandma,"
