jglu library at this city is one if the
possibilities and a communication
from tho secretary of the Carnegie
.Library Fund, which has been re

Ui oilfield, consisting principally of
a. number ol questions to bo an
swered, has made it plain that If
JIarshfleld will do Its part Mr. Carno
gio will do as much for Marshfleld
aa for any city of its size.
There' arc several reasons why
31arshfleld should bestir Itself at
nco In this matter of a public
libraiy. These s-ame reasons should
11J30 appeal to the philanthropic de
slt.ua of .Mr. Carnegie. The first Is
that Marshfleld Is destined to a rapid
growth and should bo sufficiently
silu l and forslfihted to anticipate the
ncodd of her increased population.
The Increase in ono year has nearly
doubled that population. The re
auU lias been an equal increaso in
iRo number of school children. More
than this, it Is slated by men of large
opltal who have Invested in enter
prises which will require many work
men in Marshfleld, that at least fif
teen hundred more employes must bo
.added In 190S to keep the machinery
which has boon installed and which
will soon bo put In operation, om
jiloyed. Marshfipld, which has five
thousand people today will have ten
thousand before the end of the year

mate but Is based on the simple fact
that tho present mills and factories

Tho second and very important
Teuton why a public library should
Va established at Marshfleld is its
reu.otoness f 10111 any large town.

IJEE'S SILENT WATCHES.
O
Out of life's silent watches,
Out of the gloom of night.
Souls that forsee the conflict
Send forth their words of might.
Heroes of art and science
Wrestle 'alone for years,
Bringing at last some trophy
Worthy the whole world's cheers.
Poets with brooding patients,
Toiling with courage strong,
Out of some lonely vigil
Weave an immortal scng.
Not through the whirl of pleasure,
Not from tho din of strife,
But out of the silent watches
Come tho great deeds of life.

AURORA, 111., Jan 21. Thomas
J. Allen, Aurora's champion peanut
eater, lost 12 pounds during the CO
days that he ate nothing but peanuts
and drank nothing save lemonade.
The sixtieth day expired a few days
ago. Professor Allen set out to live
on peanuts for CO days and he suc
ceeded. Here are the changes in his
physique:
Waist measure Was 34 when he
began to live on peanuts; now 30.
Chest Inspiration was 34; now
32.
Chest Expansion was 37; now 3G.
Weight Was 1C0 now 148.
Professor Allen, after" declaring
that ho felt much better
than he did when he begun the diet,
declared that in tho future he would
never eat meat and said ho would
begin a banana and other fruit diet
within a few days.
"Peanuts, I have demonstrated,"
Dr. Allen declares, "aro an excellent
food. I have had a world wide
audience watching mo and I believe
I have stimulated an interost In diet
ing. I have discovered that it is
possiblo to live, and live well, with
out meat.
"Special points of virtue in the
peanut that I have fouud aro soveral.
Tho peanut is the greatest cosmetic
in tho world. It makes the skin
smooth and soft. ..Women should go
crazy about it. My skin was as rough
as an emery wheel when I begun to
eat peanuts; now It is as smooth as
a baby's.
"Tho peanut Is very oily and stim
ulates the growth of iho hair, and I
believe that it would grow hair on a
bald head.
"Tho peanut is not an ideal food,
but it is tho richest single article of
diet in tho world. I did not like
them at first, but now I almost like
iolu alul nitonu to eat somo peanuts
cvcrv lla' for tho I'omnlnder of my
life. I think that I have eaten about
a pound a day slnco I begun my ex-
perlmont; that would bo GO pounds
of peanuts in all. I have eaten noth-
lnB olso and havo drunk nothing but
Wltcr ana lemonade."
