URGE Volume of Business With Local Merchants Greater Than Ever Before. COMMERCIAL CONDITIONS Despite Unfavorable Weather nnd Transportation Conditions There Was a Large Holiday Business. Merchants in Marshfield report that in spite of unfavorable -conditions ln tho weather and transporta tion of freight for Christmas.. sales, the volume of business dono shortly before the holidays was ln much greater porportlon than that of last year for tho same period. Of courso this has in a great measure resulted from the Increase ln population, but it is certain that business conditions here are in excellent shape. Tho throng of Bhoppers on Tuesday was even greater than that on Monday, while tho rain poured down heavily and attempted to dampen the Christ mas spirit. The few stores that kept open yesterday did an excellent busi ness, some of them making an oppor tunity to put some of their delnyed Christmas stock on tho market In time to have a Christmas value to the purchaser and tho recipient.
