J. II. SIMON, of Myrtle Point, is vis
iting friends in tho city today and
attending to business matters.
MR. AND MRS. HENRY I1ISCIIOP, a
well known rancher from up the
river, are guests at the Blanco
hotel.
D'LAND WATERS, of Coquille, ar
rived in the city on the noon train
and will leave on the next trip of
the Gasco to catch the Drain stage.
CAPT. I. D. CONRAD AND LIEUT.
TAYLOR have come to this city to
tnUe charge of the local Salvation
Army work. The former being
from Welser, Ida., and tho latter
from Baker City, Ore.
MANAGER L. R. ROBERTSON, of
the local telephono service, will
leave for Coquille in the morning
on business. He reports that tho
service between here and Bandon
v will be in shapo . tomorrow morn
ing.
Five Hundred Club. The Flvo
Hundred Club gave a card party at
Mrs. J. A. Matson's last Friday after
noon. All the members were pres
ent, tho house being decorated with
crysantheums. Six tables of pro
gressive 500 were in progress and a
very enjoyable hour was spent.
New Calendars Are Out Calen
dars for the year 190S are being dis
tributed by local merchants, and
some of them are very tasteful and
beautiful. Outside calendars from
firms doing business on tho bay aro
also boing received by local mer
chants, and most of them aro im
provements over those of other years.
Storm Warnings Received F. S.
Dow has received word from tho
weather bureau at Portland warning
of a Southwest storm at Port Cres
cent west, Aberdeen, North Head and
Marshflold. A moderate disturbance
approaching the Washington coast
will move slowly eastward and causo
high cast to southeast winds during
today. The report was received list
night.

cently, has returned to his fruit
ranch on the Coos River. Ho
brought with him a young Hollander
who is an expert landscape gardonor
and nurseryman, who will be placed
in full charge of the ranch to make It
ono of tho most up to date In South
ern Oregon. Mr. Seaman has also
purchased several thousand fruit
trees for his farm, among which aro
a large number of the latest winter
variety, tho Wintersteln, which was
doveloped from the Gravenstein and
a late winter apple. This fruit oas.
aroused great interest in tho country
because of its quality. Its hardiness
makes it po3Siblo for the fruit to
ripen during the winter months and
it will bo a splendid late apple for
