Phoenix Attorney Spends Few
Days Here Relatives Ex
cited by Disappearance.
LOS ANGELES, Cal., Dec. 10.
A special from Phoenix, Ariz., Bays
a good deal ot comment has been
excited by tho disappearance from
that city of an attorney named W.
P. Richardson, who Is believed to
be In Pendleton, Or. About 10 days
ago Richardson told his wire and
friends that ho had to go to Globe
on business connected with an im
portant lawsuit. It is stated that he
took a west bound train at Maricopa
and went through to Portland, after
which he went to Pendleton.
Whether he was suddenly called
thero on business, whether he was
temporarily taken 111, or whether he
suffered from a sudden loss of
memory Is not known, but his wife
nnd his friends refuse to believe
that ho intentionally went to Ore
gon without informing them of the
fact.
Richardson Is woll known to Los
Angeles people. In addition to his
law practice, ho was manager of an
automobile agency, handling ma
chines for a Los Angeles firm. He
took a prominent part in politics,
being a republican, ana has been the
candidate for that party for county
attorney.
W. P. Richardson, tho missing
man, spent several days In Marsh
fleld over a week ago, according to
Secretary Lyons, of tho chamber of
commerce. He was accompanied by
a Mr. Callahan, also of Arizona.
Doth of the men had heard of Coos
Bay and were anxious to visit this
section. They investigated condi
tions here for Investment and spoko
In complimentary terms of tho op
portunities presented to them. Mr.
Callahan, especially, was 'enthusi
astic over the city as tho best lo
cation for a good hotel ho had seen.
Both men were In good circum
stances and spoko of Arizona and
Phoenix in a natural manner, so the
idea of Mr. Richardson traveling In
a trance has no foundation. It Is
evident that his relatives do not
know all of his ways, and for once
he took a trip without letting them
know where he was going. They
left for Portland on tho last trip of
the Breakwater, Mr. Callahan stat
ing that he would return In tho
spring to plan for tho building of a
first class hotel.
