TIES ARE GOOD ON COOS BAY Marshfield Merchants Unan imous in Their Expressions of Increasing Business. FLURRY ONLY TEMPORARY Plenty of Evidence That the Holidays Will Be Busy and Happy Ones. The Only Effect Noticeable AVus Traceable to the Uncertainty Created by News From Out side Is All Over Now. There Is no denying the fact that there was some small falling off in business oa Coos Bay for a time, though tho slump was not great. Still, It was noticeable, and the mer chants for a time wondered just how far tho depression would go. The general effect for probably two weeks was not .bright. But within the past few days, there has been a pleasing revival, and most of tho merchants are now doing the usual amount of business and some even more than over before. There is a unanimous feollng that things are soon to re sumo normal conditions. A. M. PRENTIS said that a week ago ho believed' there waB going to bo a season of depression, but lately things had plckdd'up wonderfully and he is doing a fine business. JOHN MERCHANT, of Merchant Brothers: "Our firm has been doing a good ' business through the pasc flurry and the past few days has seen an Increase." ALBERT MATSON, of Magnes & itfatson, was greatly pleased with tho revival and stated that ho drew his optimistic conclusions from his Sat urday trade. Saturday trade, ac cording to Mr. Matson, averages in ordinary times within 20 per cent, ono day with another. During the pinch It had' fluctuated greatly, but last Saturday It had conio back to its usual volume and run some higher. E. K. JONES, of tho Pioneer Hard ware, said tho store had done a larg er business yesterday than It had slnco tho company had been organ ized. Ho added that there was ono thing about tho scare which he had observed; that tho payment of bills had not been interrupted and there had been no excuses offered about hard times, and no money with which to liquidate. MR. PARSONS, of tho Lockhart Parsons Drug company, said he had no reason to complain, and that busi ness had been up to tho ordinary right along. MR. TOWER, tho Jeweler, said ho had never complained, and that busi ness was good at all times. Ho thought, however, that when tho governor's holidays aro ended there will bo a greater freedom In buying. Mr. McArthur was too busy to say much, but ho was satisfied and HappJ. S. LANDO, was seen and ho was greatly pleased wlthitho business of .tho past four days. MR. HANSEN, of Norton & Han sen, news stand, said he had been too busy to sdo any chango at all, and there had been none in his business, though just now it is increasing. MR. BOLT gave evidence to the effect that the past three or four days had witnessed more business In his store. GEORGE GOODRUM, who has been 'doing a gents furnishing busi ness for a short time, said ho had been doing well ever since ho had opened, the 15th of November, and that he had as good a day yesterday as on Saturday. He is well satisfied with the outlook. MR. PREUSS, druggist and sta tionery had observed some tempor ary depression, but said present busi ness was as good as usual. NEW HOME FOR OUR NASBY Mnrslifleld Postmaster Will Erect a New Residence as n Permanent Place of Abode.
