FLYING TO ROOSEVELT Movement nt lliind for Special Ses sion of Congress for Passing Con trolling Laws. Washington, Nov. 2. It was learned today from undoubted sources that President Roosevelt is now be ing urged to call an extra session of congress to deal with the financial situation. The request comes from and represents the judgment of con servative leaders in the financial world who have represented that the present situation is one compelling action of a character that will eradi cate all grounds for suspicion of American Industrial methods. The president has been assured from most reliable sources that there will be no opposition on the part of the great Industries of tho country to the enactment of necessary laws to carry out his ideas of federal control to the extent to which he has expounded them in his recent public utterances. These assurances are mado at this time to avoid what has been repre sented as the most dangerous situation which has confronted the country during its extended history period, that is, a seeming growing lack of confidence based on known irregu larities in soundness of methods in some quarters and no sure and speedy means of separating tho good from the unsound. To this end it is suggested that tho president set con gress to tho task first, of making such amendments to tho financial laws as will result In a minimum of flexibility with a minimum of basis of change In our present system. Next, nnd porhaps of tho most Im portance, is that the president em body his suggestions In succinct rec commendatlons for enactment into laws. In this connoction, attention has beon directed to what ho said at "Provlncetown, Mass., August 20, last, In which ho advocated national in corporation law for corporations en gaging in Interstate business. "Al most every big business concern," said the president, "is engaging In Intor.stato commerce and such con corns must not bo allowed by doxtor lous shifting of position as has beon too ofton tho enso in tho past, to cscnpo thereby all responsibility either to tho state or to tho nation." To meet his views the president has suggested amendments to tho Sher man nntl-trust law nnd adoption of Ucrlmlnal clause to that nnd tho in terstato commerce regulations. That tho president has given tho request for nn extra session careful consider ation is indicated by thoso who havo beon asked to lend their advice In tho matter. TO THE WOMEN'. V Tho Times wishes to publish every feociety Item that occurs in t Marshfield and North Bend, but it is simply impossible for a newspaper to gather such mat- ter unless the public lends Its aid. It Is taken by the editor of the Times that such a depart- mont is a part of newspaper 5 work, and that the people, par- ticularly the women, are Inter- ested in it. This department will be made a feature of the Sunday issue if we can secure the co-operation of those who entertain. There need be no feeling of modest about inform- 4 ing the Times of these matters, for wo wish them and must de- O pend upon those who entertain to aid us to a great extent. Miss Edna Welder will havo charge of this department and nows of this nature should be given to her. The office may be r telephoned, or items may be O sent in enclosures to the "So- clety Editor," and they will be O gladly accepted. Grand VrUo Mask Hall.
