Mr. McCloud and Dr. Walters re
turned Monday from a hunting trip
near Remote on the Middle Fork of
tho Coquille River.

of Libby were city visitors Tuesday.
Mrs. Ed Coffelt was down from
Coos river yesterday.
Fred Gage of Alleganey was a
city visitor Tuesday, on returning
Mr. Gage took supplies for a new
house on Coos River.
Mr. Plnkerton of North Inlet was
a city visitor yesterday and while
hero remarked that the cranberry
picking season was over.
Mr. Wm. Mete of Minneapolis
arrived In Marshfleld yesterday and
will remain permanently. Mr. Mete
will bring his family here in Decem
ber. Mr. Wm. McMullen returned to
this city yesterday after having
spent three months at Eugene. Mr.
McMullen left last evening for his
homo on South Inlet.
Tho Grand Master, I. O. O. F.
and the Grand Patriarch I. O. O. F.
encampment will make an official
visit to Sunset Lodge and encamp
ment on the 17th of October.
Father Curley of the North Bend
Parish leaves this mission Friday
morning for Portland. Father Ray
mond will fill tho vacancy at North
Bend and assist Father Donnelly of
this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Sturdlvant of
Myrtle Point are visiting in the city
for a few days with relatives. This
is tho first time in twenty years
that Mr. and Mrs. Sturdlvant have
been to Coos Bay.

that Madlne was married recpntly
and is now in Belfast with his .wife.

phase of the case.

Bandon, Oct. 6.
The Lyon & Johnson now sawmill
Juts above town has steam up to
day and Is sawing the lumber requi
site to finish planking her wharves
and tramways. This mill has a ca
pacity of GO.00O feet per day and
will add materially to Bandon com
merce. The steamer Elizabeth arrived last
night from San Francisco with 2G0
tons of merchandise and several pas
sengers. Sheriff W. W. Gage was in town
yesterday on official business.
Among the list of visitors from Co
quille today are W. C. Chase, C. R.
Barron and Walter Sinclair.
Miss Pearl Walker is Visiting her
parents of this place.
Hayter & Doak have sold out their
billiard hall business to Messrs.
Adolfson & White who will conduct
It in tho future.
Owing to tne extreme rough
weather outside quite a congestion
of commerce in Bandon harbor has
resulted and an imposing array pf
shipping, consisting of the steamers
Bowdoln and Elizabeth, the gasoline
nchooner Monterey and the three
masters C. F. Hill, Lizzie Preen, Ad
vance and Prosper have been tied
up at the wharves waitlngto go over
tho bar. The Monterey and the Ad
vance left today for San Francisco
with lumber and shingles from Pros
per and Bandon.
Mr. Craine is preparing to build
a hotel on his property near the Cody
mill which will supply handy ac
commodations to the men employed
there.
O. A. Houston of Portland has
opened a tailoring and cleaning es
tablishment in the rear of the post-
office building.
The first grand ball of the Cotil
lion Club will occur Tuesday, Oct.
9th, In tho bank hall.

misfortune to slip and injure him
self quite badly and will be unable to
resume work for some time.
Mrs. Reuben Cavanaugh who has
been visiting relatives on tho bay for
the past three weeks, left on the
Breakwater for her home In Sacra
mento where Mr. Cavanaugh has a
good position as civil engineer.
Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Sticklo drove
to Coquille City and were the guests
of their daughter, Mrs. Ray Watson.
On their return they stopped at Sum
ner with Mrs. Leonard Masters.
While there Mr. Stickle suffered a
stroke of paralysis. Ho improved
for a time, but had another attack
and is now in a serious condition.

His Prairio Schooner
Journey.
Puyallup, Wash., Oct. 7. After
completing his trip to Now York
over tho old Oregon trail in a prairie
schooner, Erza Meeker has returned
to his homo in Puyallup. Today a
big reception was given him by the
pioneers, who are m session hero.
Erza Meeker made his long Journey
to tho east after the fashion in
which he came west half a century
ago. At the gathering this afternoon
ho related his experiences along tho
way. His expedition was undertaken
for the purpose of arousing Interest
in marking the historic highway
which so many or tho sturdy pio
neers of the west travelled in early
days. Meeker- has nopes thai con
gress will take some acuon in this
direction.

a bar room quarrel this afternoon,
Charles Churchill met William Zleg
ler, an ex-pollceman of this city to
night, and shot and Instantly killed
him. Churchill was arrested.
