A cablegram was received, so it was learned today from the Royal Swedish Yacht club, asking If a challenge would be ac cepted for the American cup, and what rules and conditions governed the contest. The New York Yacht club in reply mailed a copy of the resolutions dispatched to Sir Thomas Lipton. This response, it is probable, will not reach Stockholm for a week. The Swedish yacht builders have prepared for a sound, smart, racing craft. The craft is built along lines which allow navigating the heavy Norway seas and local yacht- men are of the opinion that tho Swe dish builders will discourage the building of a mere racing machine. Kicked tho Wrong Man. A youngmarried man in Boston met a friend of his bachelor days and insisted on his coming home with him to lunch. His wife was unpre pared for visitors and, calling him aside, told him she had only ono dozen oysters and that when his friend had eaten his quota of four ho must not be asked to take any more. In spite of his promise to remember, when the guest had eaten his four tho host pressed him to take more. Tho wife looked distressed, and the frlond declined every time the hus band asked. Later tho wife said to her hus band: "How could you urge him to havo more oysters when I had explained to you that there weren't any more?" "I'm very sorry," said the penitent husband, "but I forgot all about it." "Forgot about it! What do you suppose I was kicking you under tho table for?" "But you didn't kick mo."
