Th3 first fruit exhibit ever held In Marshfield or on Coos Bay has been a great success and has resulted In arrouslng the people of Coos Bay as never beforo and as nothing else could In tho fruit possibilities of this exceptionally rich and resource ful county. Tho most noMceable dis play was, of course, tho beautiful and juicy Gravenstein apple and It Is Im possible to conceivo or Imagine that anything, better can bo produced Tho C003 Bay Gravenstoin is tho met perfect of Its kind and In applying tlio general name of tho market to this apple wo do not Ignore tho fact that a largo portion of what may find a ready sale In San Francisco under that name come from tho district which, str'ctly speaking. Is called tho Coqulllo Valley. But tho producers thert havo no reason to bo ashamed al tho numo Coos Bay for tho prize In this case went to a box of apples grown on Coos Illver, and belonging In fact as well as name to Coos Bay. This box of apples was so highly and beautifully colored and so per fect In size and shape.that It was evi dent to all observers that they would take tho prize. Tho Chambor of Commerce and, Its able secretary are entitled to tho thanks and tho congratulations ol tho whole county. Tho whole dis play, ini its every feature, was crodlt ablo both to tho promoters of tho ex hibit and tho producers. It was a wonderful commentary on tho re sources of tho county and demon strated as nothing elso ever did or could tho resources of wealth which tho people of tho county cannot now overlook. It i moro than this. It brought tho farmers and hortieultur lsts together in a common bond of sympathy, and sot In motion the ioirces which will creato a strong public spirit, and foster a most ad mirable homo pride. It lias adver tised the county ns no amount of lit erature could. It has Invited tho hosts of visitors who throng our streetti to enter upon tho lands whero such products are possible and grow rich in working a fortllo and pro ductive Hold. Hundreds of visitors to tho Chamber of Commerce havo been delighted with what thoy havo there seen, and very many of them have been Induced to remain and bo como citizens of Coos Bay or tho Co qulllo valley. Besides this tho exhi bit has onab'ed ninny to send reliable information to their frionds and nlglibors elsewhere, which will ex tend the loputatou of tho county Jar and wide. It Is understood that tho Chamber doeB not Intend to throw away tho lessons which tho exhibit has taught them. It Is proposed to continue tho excollent work and to acquire lor constant display samples of every kind of product which can bo kept. There wero bomo samples of myrtlo and articles mado of myrtlo at tho rooms and It Is hoped that tho various manufacturers will reallzo that this method will enablo them to advortlse, not only tho resources of Coos Buy, but ulso tho wares which thoy exposo for sale. That tills ox TUbit in tho form iu which it developed was and Is unusual and re markable for a Chamber of Coin tuorco will not detract from Its sioIlal merit. Coos Bay Is a proper piaco for tho unusual to occur and wo dare to hope that this will dovolop further into a permnnent exposition which will have no small effect on the futuro of tho Bay, BANDOK NBWB ITEMS Bandon, Sept. 14.
