Mrs. Gewit and children leave on the Plant for San Francisco after having spent the summer with Jack Kronholm of Ferndale. , Mrs. A. H. F. , Thorne, secretary of the Coos Bay Townsito Co., left by Roseburg yesterday on a' trip east, that will take him probably as far east as Pittsburg, Pa. Ralph Kaufman, secretary of tho Union Bank & Trust Co., of Helena, Mont., is in the city for a few days visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Kauffman, and incidentally looking after his investments made on the bay. Mr .Kauffman is very pleased with the country and speaks highly of its future. Tho festivities of Pioneers' day hero wore delayed yesterday fore noon by the funeral of Mrs. Geo. Button. Mr. Button Is still danger ously ill from tho samo malady, measles; tho week old infant is do ing well. Dinner for 250 pioneers and voter ans was served yesterday at noon in the G. A. R. hall and in tho evening a program of speeches and remlnls censing by polneers and music by tho band was given to a crowded audi ence on tho camp grounds. It is esti mated that over a thousand campers were on tne grounds, In tents and covered wagons. The Commercial Club has received the cuts for their new pamphlet on Bandon. and thev aro now belntr nro- pared by tho Recorder print shop. Frank Sweeny, of Portland, is in Bandon on business today. Rumor has It upon good authority that a new Trust and Savings bank is being organized in Bandon by out side capitalists and the local bank's attorney. G. P. Topping has pur chased and holds the best banking site in the town. Attorney T. B, Mlnot, of San Fran cisco, is In Bandoh for a few days. Ho will remain during the coming term of circuit court. R. E. Bandon base ball fans have noticed with pleasure the statement in tho San Francisco bulletin that Wills Ordway, utility outflter for San Jose, has come Into a largo estato wlh a title and seat In Parliament In Eng land. Ho will bo rembered as tho young Englishman who was roasted by a stern parent until he packed up and left for America to make good as a base ball player here. He was a member of the Bandon team of Coos County champions In 1903. A party consisting of Clayton Hollofeter and wife, Miss Claire Walker, and G. T. Tregold, left this morning for a hunting trip In tho mountains up Bear Creek. Geo. Shelly, of Marshfleld, Is a business visitor In town today. Geo. H. Dunning, who has been with the Marshfleld office of tho C. B. R. & E. R. R., for some time has been spending a week with friends in Ban don. He, with a party Including Geo. Land and wife and Miss Maud Gar field, just returned from a two days' hunt, and report good luck. Mr. Duning will return to' Marshfleld this afternoon. Masonic Opera House was packed to the doors last night to witness the wonderful work being done by the champion of bloodless surgery, and to enjoy the entertainment. Hun dreds were turned away unable to gain admission. Marvelous demon strations were made during the even ing. Several deaf people were made to hear In three minutes. Mrs. Lottie Forty, deaf In left ear was made to hear a whisper in less than three minutes. Mr. G. F. Hoeh nel was made to hear in a low tone of voice In a moment. Mrs. Martha Landrlth, deaf for 11 years, who had to use an ear trumpet, was made to hear a low whisper in less than five minutes. Upon tho completion of the demonstra tions tlm audience cheered long been performed, but the doctor said no that the relief was given through tho means of recent discoveries. In speaking of Central Oregon, he said: "It Is a fine country but I doubt if we- shall be building east of the mountains for a while. It is not a profitable district to operate a rail road through on account of its scat tered communities."
