Masters spent last week at tho "Or
chard" on Coos river.
Johnson's mill, above town, is run
ning full time since the proprietor's
return from tho city.
The Coqullle saw mill is running
with a scarcity of hands men pre
ferlng to work In the logging camps,
wnere they get higher wages.
The lato rain put out tho fire In
Aasen's camp and laid tho. dust so
that a buggy ride now is a pleasure,
of which many avail themselves.
There was a general exodus from
Yoakum's logging camp Saturday
last. It was pay day and many of
the men shouldered their blankets
and left for other scenes.
Mr. Slaglo, tho horse trainer at
Arago, has three horses under train
ing for tho races; two trotters and
one pacer. He is assisted by W. E.
Paull.
State Food Commissioner Bailey
is In town this morning on his in
spection of this part of Oregon. Ho
is well pleased with the looks of the
Coqullle valley and its possibilities.
Mr. Frank Carr, of the boot and
shoe manufactory, has a new shoe
machine for sewing soles qn shoes.
Ho has many orders and is looking
for men who can help make shoes.
Our town is full of good looking
schoolmarms attending tho semi-annual
teachers examination, which Is
in session at this writing. Prof.
Bunch Is in charge.
The hooktender at Cody's camp,
W. R. Ranghirge, was badly Injured
by a cable last Monday afternoon.
He Kvas alone and unconscious some
time. He was badly scratched and
injured internally. He is resting at
tho city hospital, and tho doctor
thinks ho will recover.
Attorney chase returned from his
hunting expedition over in the Coos
Bay country and reports eleven deer
and one bear as tho game bagged by
liis party. Ho had the honor of
bringing down Mr. Bruin, and five
deer, with his rifle. The rain caused
them to lose some of their meat.
Nearly al hay was safely housed
boforo the rain, except some late
grain hay, which is now being cut.
