THE TEN MILE COUNTRY.
Have you sen the ten mile country,
With Oregon woods around;
The fairest in all Coos County,
Where the fish and game abound?
It is like an uncut diamond
That's a beauty In the rough;
This beautiful Ten Mile Coantry!
Nature alone did enough.
Away from thlng3 artificial!
Away from strenuous life!
Out on a lake in a forest
Who thinks of worry and strife?
Out on a lake without neighbors!
Not a cabin on tho shores!
Surrounded with giant timber;
Scarcely a sound but the oars.
Never a sound but of Nature;
The rustlo of deer or bear;
The drum of an old male partridge;
Or a fish hawk In the air.
Where else Is such peace and quiet,
As this land of fish and deer?
This country of lake and forest,
With Its water, deep and clear.
This paradise for tho weary!
Weary of vulgar display;
Longing to get back to Nature
Leaving the world to Its way.
So hero's to tho Ten Mile Country!
As it is, may It remain!
Away from the world's convention,
Away from all that Is vain.
May the ones who come to dwell here,
Leave their pomp and pride behind
Living alone tho essentials!
True to the land which they find.
By Dr. T. G. Harriman, Long
Beach, California.
