But the purpose of the gang was
quickly realized and a cry of "Rob

the town rushed Into tho hardware
fatores and armed with rifles and
guns. They stole out on tho tops of
buildings, in alleys and back lots,
while some few stood boldly hid in
tho street. In the National bank
Bob and Emniett Dalton had com
pelled the bank force to hold up its
hands and had dumped $20,000 iu
cash into a sack. Coming to the
bank window, Bob engaged in battle
with the townspeople, killing one
man and wounding three others.
Meanwhile there was more serious
trouble for Grat Dalton at the Con
don bank. Tho bank 'had a time lock
which frustrated tho efforts of the
gang to open it Grat swept up the
tho cash ho found lying around ex
changing a few shots with the Citi

AND ITS MAGNIFICENT PROMISE
A Vivid Word Picture of the Many Beautiful
Scenes Around the Bay and the Incomparable
Advantages Enjoyed Here
Much lias been said about Coos
Bay and to some it might seem an
exaggeration of enterprise, but the
promoters of tho country have
grounds for their confidence. Coos
Bay with her population today, will
soon be tho second city of tho Pa
cific coast, and in a few years will
nearly equal tho present size of San
Francisco.
The great Southern Pacific rail
road system is determined to make
a city of It and others will soon fol
low It up. Tho vast area of fine land
' around tho bay, tho rapid settling
up of tho Interior lands, proves that
in time Coos Bay will bo a famous
watering place. It has tho best cIIt
mate on this coastwhlcli of course

It Is easily imagined what tho sur

Mien all is completed. The whole
will bo ono city, ono in purpose, ouo

Tho whole world has nowhere else
such peace and comfort, such free
dom from friction, such light and
easy and safo ways of amusement.
Not many years ago, an animal
would flee in every direction from
one's path; the wild duck sunned
himself in many a little pond or In

upon tho beach.
Though much of the wild beauty
of those days has faded, much still
remains for those who know where
to seek it; while tho ease and com
fort of hunting and camping beneath
thoclaer skies go far to compensate
for whatever else may bo wanting.
