Tho session convened on Wednesday of last week, and Mr. Anderson informed the Times that the session will not require so much time as usual. Many applications have been filed for opening new roads and for im proving old thoroughfares. The commissioners this week will In spect some road work which has lately been completed at Sumner and also at Shuck Hill. They will also go to Golden Falls and inspect tho road vhlchis being bulli to the Loon Lake country. Mr. Anderson says that the com mssioncrs will hereafter meet every alternate month, instead of every four months as has been the custom heretofore. This arrangement is the result of a law passed at the last session of the legislature and it went- Into effect on the first of July. Following is the text of the law which shows which counties will have meetings every month and those which will meet bNmonthly, and those where no change is made from the old system: "Sec. 2522. Dated this Cth day of July, 1907. J. M. UPTON, Recorder of Bald city of Marshfield. WILLIAMS DOES NOT LIKE CONFINEMENT Clnlms He is ItoiiiK Ilnllrundcil to Asylum Still AVorries About Jnps. Several parties who went to Co quille for theball game called on G. W. AVilllams, who was taken into custody and ordered to the asylum as an insane man. Mr. AVilllams realizes his position keenly and be fore tho court objected strenuously to committment. Saturday night during the absence of Undcrsherlff Gage, AVilllams turned tho faucet in tho Jail and flooded tho place with water to a depth of three inches. Ho asked Sheriff Gago to send east for two powerful engines that, as he says, will burn the heart out of a man at a distance of 2G miles. Thcso engines are for use against the Japanese navy, according to Williams' plans. Sheriff Gage hum ors him and kindly orders anything he wants, but the engines will scarcely be here for use before AVil llams goes to Salem. He told the court that ho started for Port Or ford to warn the populace there of the impending bombardment by tho Japanese fleet, but turned back as ho felt that the Almighty would take care of that port. AVhlle being examined before the court, AVilllams said he was being railroaded to tho asylum, and claimed he knew it because ho had been instrumental in sending other people there. His evidence brought out the fact that he had been in a sanitarium at one time. Friends who had been in the confi dence of Mr. AVilllams before he be came demented understand tho rea son he Is in no better flnunclul cir cumstances than since he came to the bay. His explanation is this; he frankly owns that he has at tempted at various times in his life to drink all the whisky in sight, and traces his troubles to that cause. Since his residence in Marshfield, he has not drank to excess, and those who have observed his actions be lieve the Btrenuous work ho did in connection with his Bandon excur sion Is accountable for his condition. THINGS ARE BOOMING AROUND NORTH LAKE Muetzel Saw Mill Running to Ca pacity Much Building Is Un derway New School House. B. M. Holcomb and Otto Muetzel were in from North Lake Monday and informed the Times reporter that things in that vicinity are more than lively. Considerable building is going on and more is contem plated. Among the new buildings recently erected are a new school house at or near tho creamery, and a house 24x35 by Milo Pierson in course of construction. Mr. Pier son's house is locaed on the upper end of the south lake. Munson & Co. are building the same. Muetzel & Son's new 'sawmill is running at full capacly and is turning out every sort of lumber required in building a modern house. This mill is greatly appreciated by tho inhabitants of the Tenmllo coun try, who, before the mill was oper ated, obtained their lumber from the outside at an expense of $12 per thousand for transportation alone. This was shipped from the bay up North Inlet or to Jarvis Landing, and from these places hauled to the lakes. Then it was transported to the place most convenient to the building site and drawn from there to the site by sleds or wagons. De spite the unusual cost for lumber in the past, the country has many fine residences of frame construction. The older homes, constructed many years ago, are made froL. split lum ber and split shakes. The Steabier w (Vorks M. HrmZA? Sails fibr SaiVFrahcisco Moi day SI F.S DOW Aiient inrfor.
