Beef, cows $2. the meeting to be held on the 12th, as follows: To make the city's sa loon licences conform with the Fed eral statutes as near as possible, so that all will expire on the same day and thus save trouble for those who issue the licenses. To provide for a license fee of $800, to take effect on the 1st day of January, 1908. One providing for closing the sa loons of the city at midnight, to take effect immediately upon the same being passed by the council. Business of Importance was trans acted at the meeting of the city council which was held last Satur day evening. The report of the pro ceedings could not be published Sat urday night owing to one of the Times' linotypes being out of com mission. The meeting was an adjourned session and was called for the pur pose of ordering street extensions and conducting any other business which might come before the body. There was a full council present, with the exception of Herbert Lock hart, who is absent. The work which is ordered will comprise a targe number of extensions, new streets and macadam for several. Engineer Sandberg was ordered to prepare plans and specifications for improving Front street from the Dow warehouse to the north line of Third street. This Improvement work will comprise tearing out the planking and filling the street with earth, sur facing the stretch with a foundation which will permit of paving when such work is ordered by the city. The following is the extensions and new streets ordered: Rebuilding of Fourth street from C to G. Macadamizing Third street from Myrtle to Front. Ey tending E from Fourth to Sixth. Extending Broadway south to Pennsylvania. Cedar and Second streets will bo macadamized, and tho expense on these will be settled by tho board of equalization. A new btreet, Tenth, will be opened between Front and Maple. California avenue will bo built frdm Broadway to Balnes. Tenth, tho Broadway extension, and California avenuo will bo plank work. Tho subject of exchanging the city hall site for tne C. A. Johnson furnl turo store site to make way for open ing Second street to tho water front was discussed, but no action was taken. Bids were ordered for tho work which requires planking. The estimated cost of .these lm-pi-ovomonts'ls roughly set at $35,000. The city attorney was ordered to draw ordinances to bo presented at NOTICE.
