Funeral Monday Tho body of the
Into Thomas Nicholls, who died at
Mercy Hospital, North Bend, Friday
night after a long Illness was burled

Thomns Nichols is In Mercy Hospital
recovering from a recent operation.
Thomas Nicholls came to Coos Bay
in 187C, and slnco that timo has been
a resident of South Slough, and was a
woll known man to tho older resi
dents of Coos Bay.
New Balls Work will bo started

rails in tho yards and over part of
tho system of tho C. B. It. & E. It. It.,
tho 45-pound rails now In use to bo
replaced by C2-pound rails. Ono

Funeral Monday Tito body of tho
lato Thomas Nicholls, who died at
Mercy Hospital a few days ago, was
burled yesterday In tho local como-
tory, tho funeral taking place from
tho Johnson undertaking parlors at
2:30 o'clock. Rev. W. It. F. Browno
lomclated. A large number of friends
were present at tho burial.
Kiideiuor McetH. A meeting of
the Christian Endeavor Society of
the Presbytorian Church will be
hold Tuesday night at that church, at
which time the delegate!, to tho In
ternational convention of the Chris
tian Endeavor Society in Seattle will
probably be selected. At prosont
there arc about twelve or fifteen who
expect to attend the convention.
Honors Clergy 1'ass.es. Word has
recently been received by tho Coos
Bay Ministerial Union from J. Charl
ton, of the Western Passenger Asso
ciation to tho effect that clergy cer
tificates issued by that bureau will
bo honored by the C. B. It. and E.
It. It.
"File Spot" Hum The gasoline
schooner Sotoyomo arrived from San
Francisco Sunday with a cargo of
thirteen flats, the "Five Spot" and
100 tons of rails for the C. B. B. &
E It. It. & N.-Co. She left San
Francisco Wednesday noon, arriving
off the bar at midnight Saturday.
Kink Concert To-night. D. L.
Avery, manager of tho skating rink,
will givo the third of his series of
band concerts at the ring tonight
between tho hours of 7 and 10
o'clock. Tho Acme band will fur
nish tho music.
Life Saors Examined. For the
past week tho members of the Life
Saving crew have been coming to
Marshflold to bo examined by Dr. J.
T. McCormac, as Is the yearly cus
tom. All havo passed in good form.

W. Culbertson, for the nast three
years a member of tho Coos Bay Life
Saving crow, was yesterday honor
ably discharged and will not enter
tho service for another period, having
decided to build a residence at North
Bend.
Steamers Leave. Tho steamers
Alliance and Plant sailed Sumlnv
afternoon for Portland and San
Francisco respectively. The former
loft North Bend at 4:30 and tho lat
ter at 3:00. Both vessels carried a
number of passengers.
New Launch W. S. McFarland's
now motor boat "Towme" was
launched last ovenlng from Sam
uuroys Uoat building works. This
launch is ono of tho best finished
crafts on tho bay.
Director's Meeting. The directors
of the First Trust and Savings Bank

Saturday, loaded with lumber from
the C. A. Smith Lumber & Manufac
turing company mill. The Hognn
received a part cargo from Gardiner.
Pacific Ocean Until. A party of
Marshfield people yesterday donned
bathing suits and took a dip in the
Pacific. They reported fine water
and an enjoyable time.
