Recent events have aroused the business mon and shippers to see the necessity of some way to get their goods to market without depending on the Southern Pacific railroad, and they are looking to the construction of an electric road and thenco by boat to tho large cities along the coast, as offering the most practical solution of the diffi culty. It Is said that a wealthy lum ber company which has purchased a large tract of timber land and Is desirous of building a mill at Eugene Is among the influential movers in tho matter, on account of being un able to make satisfactory arrange ments with tho railroad company. The business men of our county scat instead of regarding the proposition for an electric road in tho light of a speculation which would benefit only a few parties, are now looking upon it as an nctual business neces sety which would benefit everybody. One great advantage in it is that It is only a short distance from th0 valley to deep water transportation. Tho Rim Is mien to everybody and it Is im possible for it to bo monopolized. N') great stir is being made about the matter publicly, but wo understand that tho steps are being taken to cir culate subscription papers for st-ifK, and wo shnll probably hear moro about it later on. If tho road is con structed It will mean a great uo-u toward tho development of Lai.o county and partisw'arJy Eugono -ind thn Sluslaw valley.
