Berwick Ilns Engineer.
Capt. Jack Reed has accepted the
position of chief engineer on the
gasoline schooner Berwick, which
Is completing a cargo of general mer
chandise for Rogue River. Although
Reed has had considerable experi
ence In the engine room, he passed
.the government examination for chief
only recently.
Reed's long term of service on the
river has been as a skipper. During
the Lewis and Clark Fair he had
charge of the gasoline launch Fox,
which he operated In the harbor.
After the exposition the Fox was
taken to Alaska, where she plied on a
short coast route. Six months ago
she was wrecked, and the crew was
lost at sea.
The Berwick will be ready to sail
early next week for Rogue River.
Then she will proceed to San Fran
cisco for nn overhauling, and it is
announced that she will be placed on
a run between Bay City and Rogue
River.
