ACCIDENT TO PLANT
Compelled to Put Buck tiito San
Francisco Load Freight on
Another Boat.
A telegram from San Francisco to
the local agent of the Plant yester
day stated the ship had been disabled
and hnd to be towed back to port
and would not sail from there before
4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The
perishable freight aboard the steam
er Plant was loaded on the Casco,
which will leave San Francisco to
day. The accident happened because of
tho breaking of a crank pin in the
machinery.
The executive committee of tho
Marshfleld publicity fund yesterday
selected Walter Lyon as secretary of
the Marshfleld Chamber of Com
merce. Mr. Lyon recently resigned
as proprietor of the Albany Herald.
He is now In Sacramento, California,
attending to business matters re
garding tho sale of his paper, where
ho was" notified by telegraph to re
port to Tom Richardson at once.
After a two week's stay in Portland
Mr. Lyon will come to Marshfleld and
take up his duties. He will bo in
tho headquarters now being fitted up
by the Chamber of Commerce on
Front street. Tlie work of fitting
up this location was begun yester
day and will be finished when Mr.
Lyon arrives. No special line of
work has been mapped out by the
committee for Mr. Lyon to start
with on his arrival here, that being
left entirely to his judgment.
Mr. Lyon was for a number of
years connected with the Salem
Statesman, which position he left to
act as private secretary for Gover
nor Geer of Oregon.
Following his term of four years
as secretary to the Governor Mr.
Lyon was editor and proprietor of
tho Independent Enterprise, of In
dependence, Oregon, for a number of
year3, following which, until a few
days ago, ho has been editor and
proprietor of tho Albany Daily Her
ald, of Albany, Oi'Cgflh.
The members of the executive com
mittee feel they have been fortunate
in the selection made, as, with the
newspaper experience Mr. Lyon has
had in this State, it is thought he Is
well, fitted for the position.

Coos liny Water and Power Com
pany Will Install Pipe Line,
Also Nntnral Pressure.
Work has been begun by tho Coos
Bay Water and Power Company on
the clearing of right of wny for tho
pipe lino from Clour Lako to the
cities on the bay. The company will
keep n large force of men engaged
in tho work in order that it may be
finished as soon as possible.
It is tho plan of the company to
have a pipe line from Clear Lake,
which is up in tho Ten Mile coun
try, to the peninsula and tg supply
water and power without the use
of any pumping station; gravitation
to serve the purpose of a pump.
Clear Lake is a large body of water
230 feet higher than the peninsula
giving plenty of natural pressure for
the water.
Tho power feature of tho com
pany's operations will not be at
tempted at once, but will be taken
up when the water mains havo been
