North Bend and Bandon met in the Initial game of the Coos County league season Sunday afternoon on the home diamond and the North Benders scalped the latter to the tune of eight to four. Bandon was a sur prize. The team, considering Its lack of practice, put up an exceptionally good article of ball, while the playing of the North Bend team was gilt edge. Pratt, the twlrler for the aggregation down the coast, serves up a good variety of fast and slow balls, and these contributed largely to tho close score, only eight hits being secured by tho North Bend team. With the exception of one or two weak spots, which team work practice will no doubt eliminate, Bandon has a team that will be trot ting In close proximity to tho top notch when the season closes. North Bend put up a star article of baseball Sunday. There Is a no ticeable Improvement in tho team work that grows more marked with each game. As guardian of the second bag Doc Gale has no superiors. When the llttl white spheroid comes anywhere around the intervening dust plot be tween the initial sack and second he is generally waiting to give it a pleasant reception with the gloved left. Equally well do the other members of the team show up. Jim Lyons, the North Bend backstop, smothered the assortment of "Ins" and "outs" and "drops" served by Box Artist Graham with, tllG regu larity of a Waterbury watch tick. About three hundred persons' wit nessed tho game in North Bend Sun day and indications point to a goodly crowd of supporters attending the game in Coquillo on next Sunday. Following Is the tabulated result of the game: Following is the detailed score: North Bend. po. a. e. ab. r. h. MARSHflELD WINNER Coquillo Team Beaten by Score Eighteen to Five Bandon Next Sunday. of The first game of tho league series played on the local grounds was won Sunday afternoon when the Marsh field team scored 18 runs against Co quillo, which team scored but 5 times. The game was loosely played on both sides after tho first three innings, several errors being made both by the Marshfleld and the Co quille teams, although the latter had a little tho worst of the argument. The 17 errors made by tho Valley team is explained by tho fact that the team has had but little practice as a team, some of the players not having been able to practice together at all before the game. This is also true of the local boys to a certain extent, changes In the line-up having been made at the last minute, all of which will be remedied as the sea son advances. Peralto, the Coquillo manager, has some good material in his team, and will no doubt givo tho rest of tho teams in the league a hard run. Col lier, while a young pitcher, has the making of a good artist, and in fact, the entire team when In good form can put up a good artlclo of ball. Manager McKeown has not yet made his selections for tho perma nent team, but has a wealth of ma terial from which to fill all the posi tions, and by next Sunday ho will have a strong aggregation together to meet Bandon at that place. Tho attendance at Sunday's game was 400, which Is an exceptionally large crowd considering there were two games on tho Bay. MARINE NEWS Marshfleld po. a. e. a.b. r. h.
