ADVERTISING.
There are two bodies on Coos Bay
organized for tlio purpose of ad
vancing the welfare of the Bay and
placing its resources before the peo
ple. It has been found by travelers
out of Coos Bay into the Eastern
States that while the Bay Is well
known, there Is hardly any knowl
edge of the different cities on the
peninsula. In expending the money
which has been raised for advertis
ing the resources of Coos Bay it Is
of course the intention to conserve it
as much as possible consistent with
obtaining results. If the North
Bend Chamber of Commerce and the
Marshfleld Chamber of Commerce
would agree upon some systematic
plan for the advertising, especially
in magazines, of Coos Bay, half tho
money now spent would be saved.
For example, North Bend and Marsh
fleld have an advertisement in the Pa
cific Monthly. The object of that ad
vertisement is to bring people to tho
Bay. The peculiar relative position
which these two cities hold to one
another gives each tho benefit of the
other's advertisement.
If a party comes here as the re
sult of Marshfield's publicity work
he will inspect the entire peninsula
before settling, and vice versa. In
short, It is a waste of money for
Coos Bay to place two advertisements
in one magazlno. There does not
necessarily need be a division of the
different advertising funds. The two
bodies can arrive at an agreement
regarding which magazines to adver
tise in. By that method needless
repetition in one magazine will be
saved and the several thousand dol
lars raised for publicity work will be
conserved that much longer.
