From the Eugene City. Guard of
July 4, says: “At a meting held in
Corvallis last Tuesday to consider the
question of removing obstructions
froiu th6 river, the subject of a nar
row gauge road to the bay came up,
and a proposition was made un bclyilf
of San Francisco capitalists that if
the, people will subscribe stock to the
amount of f5,000 per mile, the capi
talists will at once proceed with the
construction of the. road, and will
have a first class railroad in opera
tion within four months, and That
within three years after its complo
tion the money subscribed and paid
as aforesaid by the people, for which
stock shall be issued, will be paid
back to them in transporting freight
and passtngei % to and from Corvallis
aud San Francisco and intermediate
points, at rates tweijty^fivo per cent,
less than those now charged. The
proposition was reduced to writing
and purties are now engaged in so
liciting stock subscriptions.
