I •3? > % f * 4 ■r k 4 j 1 i 4 1 4 Ìì w • 1 < I « f ■ Agriculture should l>c the most ennobling of all vocations. It woiilt} be if farmers cultivated tl)e earth as teachers develop the heafd, and preachers educate the heart. Teachers and preachers aim to tratfn the thoughts and feelings to truth and love, utility and happi/ ncss. ■ Farmers should train the earth to produce such crops and fruits, and siich only, as are condu cive to the best health and highest welfare of human beings. Then would their calling lie transformed from one of degrading drudgery and interminable toil to one of re finement and luxury. The ger minating seed, the waving grain, the luscious fruits, so suggestive of all life and all blessings, and the harvest season, so typical of a res urrection. and immortality, ought to make the life of the agricultur alist a continual pastime. And this would be the farmer’s life, if fanning was managed a3 it should be. nnequaled natur Farmers have unequaled al advantages for health, strength, and longevity, The statistics of disease and the tables of mortali- ty, however, are against them. This is nut due to their vocation but to their misuses of it. No class, as a whole, is probably so utterly reckless of health condi tions. So far as our acquaintance with the habits of farmers is con cerned—and it has been extensive —it compels the conclusion, as a rule, that fhc dietic habits of farm ers arc wo^-se than those of any other class, who have the means of choosing fjr themselves.— Science of Health. \ • i 4 » X I i 4 f * 4 T f a < / K J < \ * Franklin said: “^hen you run in debt you g've another power over vour liberty.” Our old friend Franklin was a practical man, and uttered many wise and truthful say ings.
