Rev. Father Sheean who re sides at Bend, held services' in' the Catholic Church at Madras this morning. Dr. Harold Clark and family have taken up their residence in the W. H. Hess residence for a few. months. Mrs. M. E. Snook and daughter returned from Portland Thurs day evening after spending sev eral days there. J. F, Wilson has rented the C. K. Loucks place and will move his family to their new home in the near future. T. L. Quinn, representing the 0 regon Life Insurance Company, has been in Madras this week wricing policies; W. C. Moore, proprietor of the Madras Hotel, left last Friday for Portland. He expects to return tomorrow. Mrs. Alfred A. Fruhanf of Portland Ore., is a guest of Mrs. E. L. Smith, at her ranch Laurel Height for about ten days. 0. A. Pierce and family left for The Dalles Monday morning, Mrs. Pierce and son Glenn ex pect to remain all of this week. Fred Davis has. recently pur chased the lots directly across from this office and expects to prect a new reidenca in the near f iture. L. G JSavage is.down from Cul var today, looking after the Farmstead, and incidentally ex pects to remain for the big' hop this evening. James Rice of Haycreek, re turned Tuesday evening from an extendedbusiness trip, through Montana and Wyoming, in the interests of his company. Mrs. Dr Hamel returned Tues day evening from Portland where she has been attending the Na tional W. C. T. U. Convention. She reports a splendid meeting. M. Van rassel of Opal City, was in town Friday calling, on the dentist. Mr. Van Tassel says that the handling of grain at Opal City has been very lively this fall. Dr.Xoe, Independent Candi date for County Judge, G. P. Put man and C. McKay of Bend, were in Madras Saturday fore noon in the interests of the Coe campaign. M. Lonsberry, who owns a homestead two miles south of town, came up from his present home near Vancouver, .Washing ton Thursday and is looking after his interests here. S. H. Edmondson, wife and son left the early cart of the week for The Dalles where an operation was preformed at Thefc Dalles hospital on the boy, he is report ed to be getting along fine. A Farmers Auction and Ex change will be held in Madras, Tuesday, November 5th. If you have anything to sell bring it in and it will be sold for you free of charge. Sale to begin at 2 P. M, Envoy 0. A. Netter, who has been employed at the Central Oregon Mercantile Co., has severed his connection with this firm and left for Portland Wednesday morning. It is understood that Mr. Netter and Mr. Alex MarwicK - a former employee win engugu in business in the near future, hnp-fither. the location not being definately settled. The sale of the Charles R. Loo ney place, located about eight miles north of Madras, is re ported this week, to Andrew Tellefson. The consideration 01 the sale being about $3500.00. Mr. Looney and family expect to leave soon for their former home in West Virginia, where they will spend the winter, returning to Oregon in the spring.
