FREE SPEECH BY FOUL MOUTHS There is n foul-mouthed, indecent clement in the city of Portlnnd nightly insulting the decent, Inw-nbiding citizens nnd openly reviling the flog. They have sent representatives to surrounding towns nnd in the name of free speech denounce the efforts to remove them from the streets. In the name of our wives nnd childrfn we nsk your support and Vote for No. 370, Voters' Pamphlet. THE BOYCOTT AND PICKET The employers of Oregon nro not slnve drivers, as is claimed by those who live by the sweat of their poor deluded victims. This fact is self-evident in any part of the state. The boycott and the picket arc the representatives of a low order of intelligonco, scoking by fear and r - - the bludgeon to force a bad cause. Remove the system by a Vote for No. 36S. See pamphlet. John Schrank. the would-be assassin of Roosevelt, claims that he had a vision in which former president McKinley appeared to him, this vision causing Ttim to shoot the Colonel. He now de- mands that the bullet which wounded Roosevelt be returned to him, stating that he had be queathed it to the New York Historical Society, with a request that it be placed on exhibition in the rotunda of the state captial at Albany. Schrank is a curios study. His hands are small, well formed and smooth, as though unused to toil. He talks fluently at times in excellent Engish, but often stops abruptly until a changing mood makes him talk once more, ins appearance is intelligent, although the police believe the man is afflicted by some mental disorder. inmilrv for Farm Lands nt Prices From $13 to $25 Per Acre A noticeable feature in tho realty business in Portland now is a crowing demand for farm lands at prices from $15 to $25 nor acre. Israel Putnam) I take my pen today, For I'm thinking it might pay, To say a helpful word along the way; For men are always weak, And often fail to speak, Because they do not catch the word to say. I'm' a pilgrim on life's pathway, Where the dial points to noon, And I find to help another, Cannot be done too soon; And I've learned some useful lessons, By using kind expressions, To many whom I meet along the way; And I've!proved them o'er and o'er, And I prize them more and more, And I think you may consider what I say. You may hold yourself aloof, And believe it is a proof, That you're made of a superior kind of clay. But you'll always find it pays, In lots of different ways, To be friendly to the people on the way. If the day is dark and dreary, And the way is rough and weary; And some tired brother falters on the road; You will never feel the weight, Be the burden small or great, If you turn around and ease him of his load. And you'll often see the time, When a dollar or a dime, Will be an offering most meet, To keep some needy brother on his feet. I have learned that shabby gar ments, Often clothe a noble soul, While many in silks and satins, Will never reach the goal. That it's best to help today, One stranded by the way, For tomorrow we may fall, More bruised than they all: Then out before the crowd, May your voice sound long and loud, Put your heart in what you say, And be faithful every day, For a friendly word you know, A handshake and hello, Will help the other fellow on the way. Then brace up a little, men, And always bear in mind, You always ought to do, The very things to others, You wish were done to you. And then you'll happy be, While each other here you see; And as you pass along, Amid life's surging throng, Most surely every day, You truthfully can say, I'm glad I'm helping others on life's way.
