Dick Hinton and family of Antelope, were in Madras Sun dxy calling on friends. Mrs. J. S. McMeen, of Lamon ta, accompanied A. W. Boyce a id family of Madras Monday. Stanton Black, of the Blizzard Ridge country, was in Madras Thursday trading. G. E. White, G. E. Laughlin, L A. Young and G. L. Paxton have formed a partnership and will purchase a threshing outfit. -Herman Kersten, of Bend, was 'down Wednesday looking after the interests of the Central Oregon Ice & Cold Storage Co. - Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ridgway, of Lamonta, spent Tuesday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. H. SnoDk. i! F. W. Wooley, the well-known liar J ware salesman, was in Mad ras Monday calling on the local merchants. j A. C. Sanford was down from his ranch at Opal City. Sunday. He expects to come back the latter part of this week and re m lin until after the Fourth. C. P U'Ren and wife, of South --Junction, came up Saturday night to attend to local business "interests, spending several days in this vicinity. Charlie McCall and John Ro'n'nsbn have purchased the Overland Bar from Sellars & Rust, and will take possession July 1st. Sam Compton and J. P. Hahn expect to leave Friday morninp for Kansas City, Mo., and will spend several weeks in the mid dle west visiting friends and re latives. 1 S. K. Silkworth, a representa tive of the A. H. Averill Machin ery Company, of Portland, came in Wednesday night and expect' to take up some prospects ir the threshing, machinery line. John Yoeman, representing the Garr-Scott Threshing Ma chine Co., of Portand; is in this vicinity, and expects to place some machinery in this section this summer. J. C. Robinson and A. W. Bontrager returned from the Burns country the latter part of the week. They report severa sales of automobiles in thai country. Bernard Froiseth, a special insurance agent, representing a company carrying considerable insurance, was in town the lat ter part of the week looking ovei the risks. E. M. Williams, E. M. Win gate and W. E. Walther, of The Dalles, passed through Madras Thursday, enroute to The Sisters country, where they will spend a few days fishing. Mr. J. F. Pope, the new man ager of the Pioneer Telephone & Telegraph Co., was in Madras and vicinity the early part of the week, looking up the interests of that company. J, T. Hardy, traveling freight agerit of the Oregon Trunk and Hill lines, Ijas been in Madras several days looking after the shipments of the wool that was sold I ere test week. Lex Long, Newell and H. C. North, spent several days the latter part of the week on the Metolius River fishing. They report plenty of sport, but very disagreeable for camping on account of the cold nights. It is understood here that the interests of the Pioneer Tele phone & Telegraph Company have been taken over by the Pa cific States Telephone Company, the transfer having been made the early part of the week. Mr, Merrill, of Portland was in Mad ras Monday evening making arrangements for the continu ance of the central office at this point. The company will con tinue operations under the old name, and the businses will be conducted along the same lines as before.
