roads.

rinds or other fat meat placed outside
on the ground or under tho window or
near the door where ants are wont to
mako their entrance will keep them

the ants boiling water or kerosene
poured In tho fountain head will do
tho exterminating Job lu one fell
swoop.
How to Make Quick Campfire.
Drive a forked stake In the ground
nnd upon It slant a green stick with
he stub of n branch left on the upper

feet. Gather wood, partly shave down
two or three sticks, but leave shavings

be a mass of coals, ready for roasting,
frying or broiling.

HOW TO USE STRAWBERRIES.
Delicious Recipes That May Be Easily
Made.
Strawberry Custard. Make a custard
of one and one-half cupfuls of milk.
three-fourths cupful of sugar, ono or
two eggs, two level tnblespoonfuls of
cornstarch and one-half teaspoonful of
vanilla. Heat milk In double boiler,
then add cornstarch dissolved lu a lit
tle cold milk; let come to a boll, then
add eggs and sugnr beaten together
very light. Ilemove from stove and
add vanilla. Llave ready as many sher
bet cups as you wish to serve. Take
flvo Btrawberrles for each cup. cut lo
halves, lengthwise. In the bottom of
each cup place a half nut meat and ar
range Ave pieces of your berries around
It to look like petals of a flower. Now
pour In tho warm custard, leaving
room enough to repeat tho flower de-
sign on top. This may be made early
ji tho day, as It Is best served cold. A
dainty and easily prepared dessert and
especially economically when straw
berries are not too plentiful.
Strawberry Ice Cream. Two quarts
of puro cream, fourteen ounces of
white sugar. Mix well. Mash one pint
of fresh ripe strawberries, sprinkle
them with half a pound of One sugar,
let It stand about an hour, strain
through a fine sieve or a cloth. If tho
sugar Is not dissolved stir It welL Add
u little water. Stir this Juice Into the
cream and freeze.
Do not get the idea that the ordinary
housekeeper cannot make these delight.

homemade are superior to those pur
chased at tho confectioner's. Use only
tho best materials puro cream, rlpo
natural fruits or good extracts of the
samo and sugar the purest Theso

To freezo tho cream pound up Ice
two parts, mix with one part coarse
salt Ilavo your lco and salt as high
around tho outside of tho freezing can
as the cream reaches on the lnsldo.
Begin to stir tho cream at once. Stir
rapidly and constantly. This Is essen
tial to make smooth cream. If the
cream Is allowed to freeze to tho sides
of tho can without being quickly re
moved there will surely be lumps of
Ice through It
