' Personal and Local W. W. Brown of Lower Hay creek was a visitor in Madras Monday of this week. M. Van Tassel, of Opal City, was in Madras today attending to business matters. Mrs. Virginia Collver of Culver was visiting at the home of Mrs. Ellen Barnett this week. Tom McCormack left Tuesday night on a short business trip to Bend and Burns. C. B. Durbin, of Antelope, came over the latter part of the week, returning home Sunday morning. John Moore, of Redmond, was a business visitor in Madras Tu esdav and Wednesdny of this week. Mrs. M. E. Vinton, of GrassVal ley, is visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Snook, and expects to remain in this section several weeks J. C. Cockerhan of Portland, an J W. C. Barber, of Culver, part owners of the Culver Town- site ComDanv. were in Madras Monday. The voters should remember that the last day to register for the primaries is April 9th, other wise they will have to be sworn in at the primaries. E. ,L. Vinton, who has been spending several weeks at the home of his sister, Mrs. M . E . Snook, returned to his home in Seattle Wednesday. P. N. Vibbert, of Youngs, was in town Wednesday making year ly proof on his desert land entry, be ore the United States Com missioner. J. N.Graham and Thomas Brad ford of the Ashwood district, were in town Wednesday anc Thursday of this week, trading with the local merchants. Kid Kelsey, of Lake County, formerly a resident of the An telope section, spent the lattei part of the week in Madras visiting friends. F. L. Benett of The Dalles came in the latter -part of the week and expects to take a trip to Lake County in the rear future. J. Lewis and L. H. Hamiltcn of Grizzly came down Saturda with a load of cord wood taking tuck a load of freight for the Grizzly store. James Rice, of Haycreek, spent several days the lalter part o. the week in Madras, looking after the situation with reference to the handling of his wool at this place. . Clyde Hobson came down from Redmond Tuesday, bringing ir. iis car with him the committee from the Agricultural College , who visited in several sections of the country, south of this place. Porter Ashley says he has just received an extra fine carloac of seed wheat and barley fron the Walla Walla country. Thi Ashley brothers have installed i new gasoline engine on theL woodsaw and are prepared t( serve their customers better thar ever. Born-March 17, to Mrs. Frank E. Oliver, a 7 1-2 pound girl, at the family home eight miles north of Madras. Mrs. Oosbv will have her open ing Friday and Saturday of this wppW. That means that the men who have to provide the bonnets for the ladies had best take to the tall and uncut for a few days. It is unfortunate the opening wasnt few days later for then the men could have gone fishing. The new grade now under con struction from the foot of the hill to the Agencv Plains con necting with one of the Plain's roads is being rushed with all possible speed and will be ready for travel in two or three weeks. The grade will be 7 per cent all the way making easy access to the 0. W. R. & N. depot. Lewis H. Irving returned Wed nesdy morning from Summer Lake where he has been spend ing several weeks on his claim. He is delighted with prospects in that country and is satisfied that the Summer Lake landwill soon oe tne most vaiuaDie in Central Oregon because of the climate and artesian water. The Pioneer received this week as a compliment from the Great Northern Railway a hand somely engraved and framed picture of the seven Northwest- ern governors tanen as iney were standing on the rear plat form of the Great Northern Governor's Special which crried the seven executives on their Eastern trip this past winter. 0 A Pearce has been busy this week grading his yard and plan ting trees and shrubbery. He expects to put a stone wall along the front, and plant the yard in grass seed. When all of these improvemets have been com pleted, all his friends will go to call on him in order that we might roll on the grass beneath his shade trees.
